        <![CDATA[<div style="margin: 0in 0in 0pt">I'm at DFW, waiting on my early flight back to the New York area.</div><div style="margin: 0in 0in 0pt">&#160;</div><div style="margin: 0in 0in 0pt">As I mentioned in my last post, I learned this week that Sipera is up to some interesting things.</div><div style="margin: 0in 0in 0pt">&#160;</div><div style="margin: 0in 0in 0pt">I also stopped by Texas Instruments on this trip, and in addition to getting a run down on their OMAP 4 strategy I learned&#160; about some of the other things they just showcased at the Mobile World Congress show.</div><div style="margin: 0in 0in 0pt">&#160;</div><div style="margin: 0in 0in 0pt">Robert Tolbert, platform marketing manager, OMAP platform business unit shared the company's recent news, and explained the company's activity in TI's quest to continue to improve user experience and the power properties of the devices that TI chips are deployed in.</div><div style="margin: 0in 0in 0pt">&#160;</div><div style="margin: 0in 0in 0pt">Tolbert also discussed the company's recent announcement (with Samsung) of PicoDLP technology, which will be available in a Samsung handset soon,</div><div style="margin: 0in 0in 0pt">&#160;</div><div style="margin: 0in 0in 0pt">After the briefing we took a tour of TI's Wireless Application Center (WAC), where I got to see the PicoDLP technology up close and personal. If you haven't seen it yet, it's a tiny projector, which can take your source video (as an example) and project it onto any nearby surface, such as a wall, or the back of an airplane seat. The quality is amazing, but to me the fact that this technology is available in a handset or a standalone device smaller than a deck of cards is pretty remarkable.</div><div style="margin: 0in 0in 0pt">&#160;</div><div style="margin: 0in 0in 0pt">I almost wish I could have taken a "review copy" of the device to trial on my flight home today. It would be a great way to catch up on some of the movies I have yet to watch, or perhaps just review the video interviews that I conducted in Dallas this week. (These will be available from our <a href="http://www.tmcnet.com/tmc/videos/default.aspx">video library</a> shortly.)</div><div style="margin: 0in 0in 0pt">&#160;</div><div style="margin: 0in 0in 0pt">While in the WAC, I also saw a demo of several devices based on TI's ZOOM Mobile development platform, which is a software development tool designed for the open source community. The kit includes all the key components for developer to build applications, be it on the Android operating system, Windows 6.5, or the latest version of Symbian.</div><div style="margin: 0in 0in 0pt">&#160;</div><div style="margin: 0in 0in 0pt">It's always exciting to get a glimpse of the future when visiting with a company like TI, where often we're treated to demo versions or prototypes that will not see the mainstream store shelves for 12-24 months. Maybe that's why I am always loath to upgrade my own personal tech (I still carry a KRZR, which is a phone that's really good as a ... phone). Not that it hasn't been a great week, with interesting meetings with a number of the companies who reside astride the north Dallas Telecom corridor.</div><div style="margin: 0in 0in 0pt">&#160;</div><div style="margin: 0in 0in 0pt">In the last two days I've spent time in the offices of Telstrat, NEI, NEC, Fujitsu, Texas Instruments, Excel,&#160;and Apptrigger; that's in addition to the executives I interviewed from a number of companies attending the Comptel show in Grapevine this week.</div><div style="margin: 0in 0in 0pt">&#160;</div><div style="margin: 0in 0in 0pt">The interviews should be online shortly, to see if they've been posted, please visit the <a href="http://www.tmcnet.com/tmc/videos/">TMCnet video library</a>.</div><div style="margin: 0in 0in 0pt">&#160;</div><div style="margin: 0in 0in 0pt">I'll be following up with posts and articles about all the companies I met with, but in the meantime I wanted to share a bit of news from Sipera that's not made the rounds of the mainstream media just yet.</div><div style="margin: 0in 0in 0pt">&#160;</div><div style="margin: 0in 0in 0pt">The company has just released an IP Video sniffer called UCSniff2.0. Until now, the information has only been posted on security boards and community sites, and on the SourceForge site at <a href="http://ucsniff.sourceforge.net/">http://ucsniff.sourceforge.net/</a></div><div style="margin: 0in 0in 0pt"><b>&#160;</b></div><div style="margin: 0in 0in 0pt">The UCSniff2.0 eavesdrops, captures and records video conferencing sessions and works on regular IP Telephony too. Using the tool, an IT manager can perform a man in the middle voice capture and can reconstruct the voice call, shows holes in a security policy, and enable those responsible for a site's security to fix the application.</div><div style="margin: 0in 0in 0pt">&#160;</div><div style="margin: 0in 0in 0pt">The timing is good, as many industry pundits are hailing 2009-10 as the timeframe when IP video comes into its own; the solution allows an IT manager to test their environment and move quickly to address issues.</div><div style="margin: 0in 0in 0pt">&#160;</div><div style="margin: 0in 0in 0pt">Sipera also told me about VideoJak, an application designed to allow an IT manager to examine any vulnerabilities with regard to system availability.</div><div style="margin: 0in 0in 0pt">&#160;</div><div style="margin: 0in 0in 0pt">According to a <a href="http://videojak.sourceforge.net/">description</a> on the SourceForge site:</div><div style="margin: 0in 0in 0pt">&#160;</div><div style="margin: 0in 0in 0pt 0.5in"><i>VideoJak is an IP Video security assessment tool that can simulate a proof of concept DoS against a targeted, user-selected video session and IP video phone. VideoJak is the first of its kind security tool that analyzes video codec standards such as H.264. VideoJak works by first capturing the RTP port used in a video conversation and analyzing the RTP packets, collecting the RTP sequence numbers and timestamp values used between the phones. Then VideoJak creates a custom video payload by changing the sequence numbers and timestamp values used in the original RTP packets between the two phones. After the user selects a targeted phone to attack in an ongoing video session, VideoJak delivers the payload over the learned RTP port against the target. The company reports that speed trials have shown a 30% speed increase for users in the US, due to the addition of a new Opera Mini server park in the US.</div><div style="margin: 0in 0in 0pt">&#160;</div><div style="margin: 0in 0in 0pt">According to the company, this release also marks Opera Mini's official availability on the latest version of the Android mobile platform. A technical preview of Opera Mini was previously released for an earlier version of Android in April 2008. I covered that <a href="http://blog.tmcnet.com/blog/greg-galitzine/voip/mobility/a-night-at-the-opera-with-android.html">here</a>.</div><div style="margin: 0in 0in 0pt">&#160;</div><div style="margin: 0in 0in 0pt">One of the neat things about this version of Opera Mini is that it offers support for more than 90 language versions, including Amharic, Armenian, Assamese, Bengali, Gujarati, Kannada, Kirghiz, Lingala, Marathi, Malayalam, Mongolian, Oriya, Punjabi, Pashto, Sinhala, Tajik, Tamil, Telugu, Urdu, Uzbek, Khmer, Kashmiri, Lao and Turkmen.</div><div style="margin: 0in 0in 0pt">&#160;</div><div style="margin: 0in 0in 0pt">This is great news for native speakers of those languages and on a personal level allowed me to use words like Pashto, Lingala, Assamese and Urdu -- in context -- on my blog.</div><div style="margin: 0in 0in 0pt">&#160;</div>]]>

        <![CDATA[<div style="margin: 0in 0in 0pt">Earlier this week, Texas Instruments <a href="http://ipcommunications.tmcnet.com/topics/ip-communications/articles/45080-texas-instruments-intros-next-generation-ip-phone-platform.htm">introduced</a> their latest IP phone development platform that's designed to allow IP phone manufacturers to create solutions that will offer a truly feature rich experience to end users.</div><div style="margin: 0in 0in 0pt">&#160;</div><div style="margin: 0in 0in 0pt">I was fortunate to meet TI's Kim Devlin-Allen who heads up the company's business development efforts for CPE VoIP Communications Infrastructure and Voice DSP Systems to discuss the latest news.</div><div style="margin: 0in 0in 0pt">&#160;</div><div style="margin: 0in 0in 0pt">Devlin-Allen told me that the latest offering from TI - the TNETV107x family -- is designed to allow developers to build solutions to serve the full range of clients, from entry level IP desk sets to fully featured executive IP phones. She explained that the new platform will include the TMS320C64x series digital signal processors and will allow developers to leverage a wide range of TI's silicon and software solutions to create their IP devices.</div><div style="margin: 0in 0in 0pt">&#160;</div><div style="margin: 0in 0in 0pt">Developers can also take advantage of TI's OMAP technology for ultra low power and amazing graphics capabilities to give their customers more options.</div><div style="margin: 0in 0in 0pt">&#160;</div><div style="margin: 0in 0in 0pt">One of the things driving developers to design more fully featured phones is the fact that a younger generation of employees entering the workforce are demanding all the bells and whistles of unified communications and a platform that would allow them to access all the features and applications they need to be more productive.</div><div style="margin: 0in 0in 0pt">&#160;</div><div style="margin: 0in 0in 0pt">The chips will be available in the first half of next year.</div><div style="margin: 0in 0in 0pt">&#160;</div><div style="margin: 0in 0in 0pt">Texas Instruments also announced a new customer that is leveraging TI's TNETV1055 platform to develop a high-definition voice IP phone. TI announced the Yealink Network Technology has designed the SIP-T28 to support the wideband codec G.722.</div><div style="margin: 0in 0in 0pt">&#160;</div><div style="margin: 0in 0in 0pt">The phone is described as a "stylish 6-line IP phone featuring 16 programmable function keys, four soft keys, an XML screen, SMS language customization and 'groupable' enterprise phone books, among other features."</div>]]>
