Google Buys TellMe

February 1, 2006

One of the predictions The Deal made on CNBC today is that Google will buy voice portal pioneer Tellme. This is a logical acquisition as Tellme is a very strong player in voice portals and as a bonus is profitable. The acquisition would allow people to access Google's services from telephones almost as easily as they do on the web. As a bonus, their office is not too distant from Google's. Here is an article I wrote from a few years back talking about Tellme.

On a side note, when I last visited Tellme's offices I was pretty fascinated by the open office atmosphere. It was almost as if they set up a leading edge technology company in the middle of a gymnasium. It seemed like a fun place to work and seems to have a culture that would mesh nicely with Google's own.

IMS Expo

February 1, 2006

On the heels of a tremendously successful IMS Summit at ITEXPO this past week with multiple standing room only sessions, we feel TMC is the right company to educate the world on the growing IMS market. For this reason, TMC is launching IMS EXPO, October 11-13 in San Diego, California. This event will be supported by TMCnet's massive audience which exceeded 900,000 unique visitors in January as well as IMS, SIP and Internet Telephony Magazines. Mark your calendar now and I hope to see you in San Diego this fall.

Thank You

February 1, 2006

Thank you for attending ITEXPO last week in Fort Lauderdale, Florida and giving us testimonials any show producer would be proud to have. What consistently amazes me about Internet Telephony Conference & Expo is that a wide variety of exhibitors are happy and conferees are thrilled as well. Thank you all for attending and for the nice words. These testimonials are unsolicited and I am told a huge batch more just haven't been put on our site yet. Keep checking back if you are interested in hearing what other independent people think about our show.

These objective testimonials are what give the TMC team the extra energy that drives us to put on ever-better events. Here are some samples:

"Anyone in the world looking to deploy VoIP services attends INTERNET TELEPHONY Conference & EXPO. This is the carrier's show. We've met tons of qualified people looking for VoIP termination and gathered many, many excellent leads. The leads we generated here are like ducks in a barrel, and I've got a shotgun! This is clearly the best VoIP show for us and for anyone looking to reach domestic and international service providers."

Luis Torres, Carrier Account Executive,
XO Communications

"The sessions at INTERNET TELEPHONY Conference & EXPO were truly fantastic. I attended sessions in many tracks - including IMS Summit, Open Source Summit, Service Provider Summit, and SIP Workshop. Each was presented in an unbiased manner, focusing on the details and benefits of implementing these useful new technologies. All in all, this was a very good show, well worth my time and financial investment."

Peter Martin, Sr. Engineer,
Network Services-IP Engineering, IPC
Conference Attendee

"All sessions I attended at INTERNET TELEPHONY Conference & EXPO were well-presented, informative and very worthwhile. Presenters were well-versed and able to effectively educate the audience on highly technical subjects using understandable terms and examples."

James Brehm, Director of Business Development,
Frost & Sullivan
Conference Attendee

"What's unique about INTERNET TELEPHONY Conference & EXPO is that people come to our booth actually looking to BUY off the floor. I could not believe how many people wanted to buy our hardware at the show. This is without question one of the most successful events I have ever participated in."

Doug Vilim, VP, Sales & Marketing,
Sangoma Technologies

"INTERNET TELEPHONY Conference & EXPO has reached a new level of sophistication - yet still maintained it's vibrancy!"

"Five minutes after the show opened on Wednesday night, I was unable to get near my booth. The attendees were lined up ten-deep waiting to view our products and to speak to our reps. This is by far the best VoIP show out there. Both here and at the L.A. show last fall, we actually turned a profit solely on orders placed on the show floor! We have reserved a 50' x 50' booth space at the next show in San Diego to accommodate all of the demand."

Garrett Smith, Director of Business Development,
VoIP Supply

"What a great show we had last week in Ft. Lauderdale! We collected more leads than we have at an event in the USA for quite some time! The INTERNET TELEPHONY events continue to deliver great results for Aculab."

Jo Taylor, Head of Marketing Communications,
Aculab
Exhibitor

"I wanted to congratulate you and your team on an outstanding show. We had tremendous traffic. The attendees were interrupting the demos to ask great questions and essentially drove every demo. So not only did you bring in the crowds, but these were qualified, focused attendees. Excellent job!"

Once again, I say thank you from the bottom of my heart for these kind words. As many of you know when I announced that TMC was going to launch Internet Telephony Magazine at Comdex in November of 1997, I was met with giggles and disbelief. It was not understood that this market would turn into something beyond software for the hobbyist. Now that enterprises are changing the way they communicate and service providers are looking to new business opportunities because of VoIP, it is exciting to have been in the space since the inception. Thanks to all of you that believed in TMC over the years and kept the dream of IP telephony alive when there were so many doubters.

And also special thanks to the TMC team that toiled endlessly during good times and bad believing that TMC was truly onto something exciting and world-changing. These comments are the result of your hard work and you deserve them more than anybody.
