President/CEO/Director of VoIP Company
May 15, 2006
Someone I know well who has run a public VoIP company is looking for a new opportunity. He is a seasoned VoIP executive and is dynamic, professional and has the rolodex of media contacts, etc. He will work in any Sunbelt state in a company around $20 million or so that may want to go public soon. Let me know if you need such a person.
GIPS Enabled Speakerphone
May 15, 2006
I am in the airport now (what else is new). I am speaking at a direct marketing event tomorrow in Akron, Ohio. I will be addressing how to build a superior website. The show organizers thought I would be the right person to discuss this topic after learning about all the traffic TMCnet is generating each month.
As many of you know w surpassed a million unique, filtered visitors (not to be confused with unfiltered that includes bots, spiders and junk). We also rank in the top 1,400 out of all sites in the world.
After that I am in Atlanta speaking to more resellers about how to get into and profit from VoIP and IP communications.
Anyway I recently learned about a new company called LifeSize which has a conference phone that is supposed to be of the highest quality. Although I don’t have time to research this further this phone looks just like the one inside of the offices of Global IP Sound -- they tell me it uses their technology.
If I am wrong I am sure the community of readers I have will correct me ASAP. I apologize for not having the time to fact check but I am boarding a plane now.
BTW: Google is upgrading to a new software/hardware combination called Big Daddy that is wreaking havoc on the web traffic of many on the internet. We have seen wild fluctuations in our traffic as well. Some highly ranked areas have disappeared and other areas are receiving record traffic. This is quite wacky.
Skype Goes Dialpad
May 15, 2006
Dialpad was the first company to allow free calling on landline phones in the US. This was a dotcom luxury we all thought. Almost immediately this unknown company acquired just under 20 million users worldwide keeping in touch with US-based relatives. Now Skype has decided to make SkypeOut in the US and Canada also free meaning it will become a DialPad clone. By the way, Dialpad is now part of Yahoo! and no longer offers free service.
This news should result in even more users for Skype’s telephone service. This is very very big news.
MTV URGE
May 15, 2006
Now that MTV has decided it will compete with iTunes by offering downloads of music and eventually videos, one wonders how many potential competitors there will be in this space. How many can the market bear? Will content providers ever say enough is enough and stop new outlets from getting a hold of their songs and videos? From where I stand this competition for the consumer will put content providers in a better and better position to negotiate lucrative deals. Then again do content providers even need a service like iTunes or Google? They can just stream their content themselves if they like.
To some degree partnering with a Google means that Google will do some of the marketing for you. You in essence are hiring Google as a marketing partner.
If you were to bypass Google altogether then you would have to market your content by yourself. This isn’t totally impossible though. We could likely see advertising campaigns all over the Internet for this studio or that program. In fact to some extent we already do.
As the market grows expect affiliate programs to pop up like they have done with VoIP services. Studios and other content providers will start paying websites per sign up. It will get very competitive.
We will eventually see bundles of content everywhere. Studios with content attracting similar demographics will work together to get at consumers by offering a package of stations and music titles.
The Internet is democratizing content distribution and in the process the consumers of the future will have more choices than ever. It may become a bewildering array of options actually. But this is much better than having the current choice of only satellite or cable for television.
