Bubba Gump

Bubba Gump Shrimp is a real TMC favorite but there always seems to be a wait and unfriendly hostesses. Where is Karl when you need him?

Dialogic Cruise
March 7, 2007
I am headed to downtown Miami now where I will be on a cruise with Dialogic partners and the Dialogic team. This will conclude the Dialogic One event. The weather is pretty nice here so I expect to have a great time. This is my fourth time in Miami since November ’06 and I will be back in Florida for CTIA in a few weeks.
The boat is docked at the Bayside Marina a few blocks away from where Internet Telephony Conference & Expo East was launched back in 2000 – or was it 2001?? I can’t recall.
Anyway, I may have a photo or two to post at some point this evening.
Musings for March 7, 2007
March 7, 2007
Now it has been a while since I was in the mood to muse as it were but when the muse mood strikes it is best to be by a keyboard so you can ponder the ramifications of world events.
In Turkey -- a world away from where I am today, it seems YouTube has been blocked because a video contained on the site is defamatory to the founder of modern Turkey. In the interest of keeping my loyal readers in the country I will refrain from mentioning his name in any fashion at all.
Unfortunately the court probably is not aware there is something new and interesting called the internet where the video can be downloaded from millions or even billions of other sites. Perhaps the thing to do is emulate neighboring Iran and just slow internet access so video is not even able to be seen.
It seems some countries are enamored to be thought of as third world countries by everyone else.
Again this gets us back to a blog entry I wrote back in December of last year titled YouTube as Political Barometer which discusses how we can gain valuable insight about a country depending on how they view YouTube.
If you made it this far you are probably in disbelief or laughing which brings us to the next topic of today’s musings – emotions. It seems technology has advanced to the point where you can now use your brain to play games with your emotions. This is great for people who enjoy the mind games but don’t feel like dating.
Telecommunications Magazine
March 7, 2007
I was quoted recently in great article in Telecommunications Magazine a publication devoting more and more space to the IP multimedia subsystem or IMS space. The article requires registration to read in full and was written by Frost & Sullivan analyst, Olga Yashkovato. Here is the quote:
“Technology is changing so rapidly and the merger of communications and entertainment is progressing at a very quick pace. In order for service providers to be positioned to take advantage of applications that consumers and enterprises will pay for, they need to have IMS-enabled networks that will allow rapid deployment of these applications. It will present service providers with an opportunity to continue to make money on services as profits from voice continue to decline,” says Rich Tehrani. chairman of IMS EXPO.
The Lighter Side of Traveling
March 7, 2007
It has been an interesting trip. I have been meeting so many companies these last few weeks and I believe I have about 30 stories or so already to write up. Many of these companies have their information under embargo and this presents another challenge as I need to keep track of what is allowed to be published when, where and how.
Hopefully I can get to all of the news and add appropriate insight soon. The challenge is always what happens if the news gets old before I get to it? Is it better to write about it late than not at all? Such are some of the simple challenges I deal with.
Other simple challenges are my hotel stay the other night. You see the hotel was very nice – probably as many diamonds and stars as you can get. Unfortunately this means the pillows have to be of the highest caliber goose feather possible. The feathers were so unique that they threatened to escape the pillow as I slept and I spent much of the night getting poked by the pointy sides of the feathers. I actually had to pull a few of them out as I was afraid I would be blinded during the night.
Suffice it to say I didn’t sleep too well.
This is likely why I was so groggy at security on the way to Miami last night that when they made me take my belt off and put it through the conveyor belt – i forgot to pick it up on the other side. One day soon I expect to see “Rich Tehrani’s Belt” show up on eBay. At least now you know it’s authentic.
Thankfully last night’s rest was much better and I am very excited to be at Dialogic’s One event in Miami.
