Vonage Has Better Quarter
May 10, 2007
While the NJ based VoIP company had a better quarter than a year ago, they are still working on the “workaround” which will keep them from infringing on the Verizon patents.
"We believe we have workable designs for the two name translation patents and intend to begin deploying the solution to our customers shortly. In addition, we are continuing our development of the workaround for the wireless patent,” Vonage CEO Jeffrey Citron stated.
If the company is able to really come up with such workarounds can they resell them to others? Could the workarounds be patented already by another company who is out for blood? I tell you… This IP communications market is a thrill a minute. And to think, my friends think my job is boring. ;)
Here is the full story and some interesting commentary from Aswath I happened upon recently.
Second Life Child Porn
May 10, 2007
Recently I wrote about Second Life and how others mentioned it was a platform for people to have the sex they wished they could have in their first life. I didn’t make up this quote. If you are interested in its origins check out my article.
Anyway, it seems the virtual environment is now tied to child porn according to the BBC.
BTW, this doesn’t mean the platform doesn’t have serious and legitimate uses, it just means like any new technology, people will use it to do questionable and potentially illegal activities. In fact, porn was a driver for much of the innovation in telecom in the nineties and this innovation eventually led us to have IP communications.
