Pactolus and Cisco Workshops
May 14, 2007
Be sure to come to the Communications Developer Conference tomorrow and be part of the Pactolus and Cisco workshops. Why you ask? Because the future of communications is all about ecosystems and companies like Pactolus and Cisco are providing a forum for your company to develop products and immediately reach the audiences they can help deliver to you.
The interest in joining partner ecosystems has never been greater. The Communications Developer Conference is the event you need to be part of to learn about the ecosystem possibilities… Which to join, how to join and the benefits of each.
Taqua
May 14, 2007
I spent some time with the Taqua and Genband folks a few weeks ago before I could tell anyone Taqua was being spun out as a separate entity.
Now the embargo is lifted and the company will be going full speed ahead.
Founded in 1998, Taqua developed the industry's first fully integrated next-generation Class 5 switch - the Taqua 7000 Switching System. The T7000 can be used in Enhanced VoIP, Intelligent Gateway, Class 4/5 Transition, Triple Play and/or Cable Telephony applications.
Taqua was sold to Tekelec years ago and more recently was sold to Genband who just today spun Taqua back out as a separate company. The management of Taqua have a clear vision and based on the conversation I had with them they feel they will be immediately taking share away from their competition.
Taqua has some of the best and brightest and it will be most interesting to see if they take as much share as they predict.
Stay tuned.
Avaya Developer Day at Communications Developer
May 14, 2007
Avaya's Developer Day kicks off TMC's Communications Developer Conference and the room is absolutely packed. Here is a photo to give you an idea of what the room looks like from the door. The photo actually doesn't do justice to just how crowded this room is. Hat's off to Avaya who now has over 5,000 partners in the Developer Connection program. When they first held this day at the first VoIP Developer show a few years back they only had 250 members. This is dramatic growth in such a short time. Here is Greg Galitzine's recap of the day.
Wal-Mart Carries Skype
May 14, 2007
Have you seen the latest Dairy Queen commercial where a woman dressed as scoops of ice cream knocks on the door of a man who is dressed as a waffle cone? She asks for chocolate syrup. The commercial says “some things were made for one another.”
Perhaps I was hungry when I learned Wal-Mart will be carrying Skype products and accessories but this commercial immediately came to mind.
Why you ask? Well Wal-Mart clientele are exactly the type of audience that I would imagine would be interested in Skype. Low income and most likely largely made up of immigrants to this country who of course have relatives in other countries.
Read the details on Tom Keating’s blog. I would write more but I am going out for ice cream now. ;)

I am at the airport in California, headed to Santa Clara. I had a smooth flight which was slightly delayed. I can't wait for the conference to start.
