Rich is in Washington Today!

July 17, 2007
I am in Washington state this week. I neglected to mention this in my blog yesterday but it seems everyone wants to know where I was off to. The weather is cloudy and my meetings are going very well. More to report soon.

SunRocket Bankrupt

July 17, 2007
I am not really so surprised by the SunRocket bankruptcy news. The company was an innovator and had some great ideas early on but for the last few years they were extremely quiet. There was little press outreach and there was a lot of management trouble.

Russell Shaw will tell you this is an example of how difficult it is to be a pure-play VoIP provider in a triple-play world. While the triple play competition is obviously part of the problem with SunRocket… It seems having a lack of consistent management or business planning is a much bigger problem.

Yes, it is a tough business but I think SunRocket just stopped trying many years back. I would keep my eyes on 8x8 as they are a well run company and have consistent management. Packet8 may not be the largest phone company but they are consistent.

More from AP and CNNMoney.

No Room For Trash

July 17, 2007

I am sitting on a flight now and the person next to me is young... perhaps
in his twenties. I know he is young because he broke one of the cardinal
rules of flying. Never ever ask a flight attendant on a domestic US flight
to take your trash when she/he is passing out the beverages.

In the flight attendant handbook it is actually required to snap at
passengers when they break this rule. The person next to me almost had his
head removed. Do any of my readers have access to the flight attendant
handbook which discusses this issue?

Perhaps passengers should receive a written warning about this offense prior
to take-off?
