Earlier this month in a piece titled Why Android Sucks you learned that Dell decided to stop updating Android devices. The article explained this is a potentially huge problem for customers. Moreover, the piece wondered aloud whether it makes sense for the industry to rally around a three-year or five-year norm for product updates.

This assumes the company is around to update the OS of course.

The latest challenge to Android comes from Motorola who says they will not provide monthly security updates for the Moto Z.

Motorola explains (somewhat paraphrased) they have a lot of devices and can’t move any faster.

Bottom line: You will pay less for Android devices than those from Apple but depending on who you purchase from, there may be some big downsides to consider when it comes to OS updates.
