Perhaps I am the idiot and Steve Jobs is right. We just called the Apple store in Stamford, CT (both local AT&T Wireless stores are sold out and you can tell they aren't too happy to be fielding these calls) and they have a few iPhones in stock but there is a noisy line out the door.
You have got to be impressed by the hoopla surrounding this phone but still, don't we all have more important things to do than stand in line and make calls to get a phone?
