Thanks to playing video games I decided to teach myself programming to make my own video games which somehow got me to my present day career of running a media company building communities online, in-print and in-person. Weird, I know.
Since I graduated from college I haven't spent too much time playing games as I just don't have time. I did check out an Asteroids game while testing the capabilities of HTML5 a while back. And I finally decided it was time to get a video game in my house when I discovered how amazing Microsoft Kinect was on the Xbox 360.
But on the iPhone and iPad I have stayed away from most games - occasionally playing one or two with my kids such as Namco's Pac-Man Lite or Memory from Moah or sometimes BubbleFree which is an addictive game which lets you pop virtual Bubble Wrap.
So when I saw a review in USA Today discussing RAGE for iPhone where Brett Molina went on and on about how amazing the game was because there was so much action and it never bogged down on the portable Apple device, I had to try it - to see exactly what he was talking about.
Specifically he said:
The touchscreen controls reside on the corners of the screen, offering plenty of space for players to soak in the very detailed environments. Equally impressive is how smooth the game operates. Several mutants attempt to pounce on players at once, and the game never seems to slow down or stutter. The game is of the first-person shooting variety and I love it - it is a lot like Doom which I played a few times year back but with very rich graphics and a rapid pace which can take your breath away.
It is addictive and great fun if you like to kill mutants and at $.99 or $1.99 for the HD version, it is a solid value.
Enjoy your holiday season and sorry if I just killed your productivity.
