Jabra Responds To Evolving Workplace with Engage 65, 75

April 15, 2018

After exhaustive interviews with 400 call center professionals and IT administrators, Jabra set out to design headsets for the evolving workplace. Respondents told them, automation was handling the easy tasks leaving the higher value phone calls to be handled by agents.

Also, as rents have climbed, office spaces have gotten smaller and noisier. Open office environments certainly have to be an issue as well.

CounterPath Now does Collaboration

April 15, 2018

President and CEO Donovan Jones

Years before it was fashionable, CounterPath had a soft-client, allowing an app to give mobile devices compatibility with virtually all SIP phone systems. The company's Bria softphone was so ahead of its time, it is pretty incredible that CounterPath hasn't become a household name.

Perhaps that will change as the company recently launched its Stretto Platform for collaboration. We aren't sure we are huge fans of the name Stretto but we are fans of the solutions the company offers. CounterPath can now overlay seamless collaboration on all PBXs. All this while, providing provisioning, battery saving technology, messaging, presence and more.

The benefits become clear when you think about it.

Digital Transformation Helps Lockheed Martin go Hypersonic!

January 16, 2018

Digital Transformation is becoming the buzzword of the decade and its meaning is rather broad. We like to call it the application of the latest computing technology to improve business processes. More specifically, using cloud, AI, cognitive computing, mobile, IoT, big, data, and other tech like chatbots and APIs. The list of technology is really never-ending, we could have added sharing economy, autonomous vehicles, smart cities, smart buildings, mesh networks, blockchain and so on.

Practically speaking, companies need to disrupt themselves or become new disruptors depending on the age of the organization.

Scott Galloway Nails it on Key to Apple's Success

October 10, 2017

Scott Galloway is one of the few college professors you'll hear that actually understands branding in technology and he is able to articulate his vision masterfully. We never feel like we are wasting time listening to him speak and we envy his students.

His thoughts on Apple's largest creator of shareholder value is that it's the stores, not the phone.

It makes a lot of sense.

He goes on to say Samsung spends double on advertising than Apple while Apple has invested in leases.

He also points out the company has between $5-$6 billion in store leases which help customers consummate the relationship with the brand.

If we had to argue with the point at at all, we'd have to say that Apple was able to early on take the premium spot in the phone market. Their packaging, pricing and branding all screamed premium.

In fact, Apple's packaging has changed virtually all of the packaging in the entire market of products.

Metaswitch: UC and CC The New and Old Growth Area for Carriers

March 11, 2016

Adding contact center and unified communications to your offerings adds a 30% addressable market for carriers according to Chris Carabello of Metawitch networks. He then said, “We're very invested in service providers and given their broadband infrastructure, ability to own quality of experience and have an existing distribution channel.”

Moreover, Chris showed me research which cites carrier customers saying they would be happy to buy these services from the carrier if the price is right.

Carriers providing contact center or even business voice services is not necessarily a new idea.

Synaptics Shows Off Thinner Screens, No-Touch Displays And Flexible Biometrics

February 29, 2016

It’s always great to meet up with the people at Synaptics – like I did at Mobile World Congress (MWC16) to see what the future holds from a touch-interface standpoint. Andrew Hsu, Head of the Concept Prototyping Team had lots of great information to share. First off, the company’s acquisition of Renesas SP Drivers and fingerprint sensor company Validity means great things for the world of touch-intensive applications. By having biometric authentication, capacitive touch and display technologies under one roof, the company is able to allow fingerprint sensors on the side of phones.

Exclusive Interview with Aricent's Frank Kern at MWC 2015

April 3, 2015

It’s been a few years since I've covered Aricent (2012, 2009, 2006) but as fate would have it I was fortunate enough to interview Frank Kern, CEO at MWC 2015. This is one of the companies behind many of the products we use and one you likely don’t know a great deal about. It’s owned by KKR and Sequoia and is a pure-play product innovation services company – Kern explained his they don't do IT and BPO like others in the space.

Another differentiator is the company’s core strength is connectivity and there is a great demand for such services at the moment.

Amazon Fire Phone Should be a Laptop

October 24, 2014

I’ve written a lot of headlines in my life but this one is among the oddest. Why on earth does a phone need to be a laptop? I know what you’re thinking... Rich Tehrani flew to Colorado to do a story on legalized marijuana which includes sampling.

Can Apple's Haunted Empire Still Make Hits?

March 20, 2014

Isn’t it funny how much of the world has changed thanks to Steve Jobs? As I sit here at my computer using a mouse and GUI, which Jobs popularized while listening to MP3s, another industry he revitalized, I am fascinated by how much this man changed computing. Over a decade ago, my company TMC launched a show in the biometrics space called BiometriTech and another in the tablet space, Tablet PC Summit. Both shows failed because the companies in the industries failed to make products in volumes that translated into marketing budgets which allowed for a successful conference.
