Nortel’s Future

September 7, 2006

With the rumblings in the market and out Alcatel and Lucent possibly calling things off, it might be a good time to look to Canada and see how Nortel is doing and what they plan for their future. I just came across this great article on the future of Nortel. The company believes Next-Generation Mobility, Enterprise Transformation and Services & Solutions will be the heart of the new Nortel.

Here is my take on the news.

Mobility

A super-hot area – productivity will skyrocket as mobility gets better. There is lots of money to be made in this space and it will become more competitive as smartphone makers including Blackberry, wireless carriers and Microsoft (who could be in the smartphone category but are so large they deserve their own) all jockey for leadership position.

TMC in Stamford Advocate

September 3, 2006

TMC was featured on the front page of the business section of the Stamford Advocate newspaper today. It was also in the Hartford Courant (at least online – I am not sure if it made the printed version on Sunday) The article was great and we are humbled by the nice coverage of TMC. One thing I am glad the piece focused on is how much we value our team and what they have helped build. It has been a wild ride and the last 7 years have been so exciting – from ideal telecom times to rough ones and then massive growth once again.

ITEXPO – Early Bird

August 28, 2006

Time is running out to take advantage of early-bird pricing for Internet Telephony Conference & Expo. A reminder to my blog readers that the time is now to save up to $1,000 on a registration. That, my friends is a whole bunch of iPods, SIP phones, infinity Asterisk servers (assuming you have the hardware ), and since we are heading into back-to-school season – that’ll buy you about two entry-level student-ready laptops.

I am really jazzed about this event because we have some of the best speakers we have ever had at our ITEXPO conferences and the breadth and depth of knowledge you will receive over the course of a few days is almost beyond explanation.

It should be noted that TMC has also partnered with other groups to make our already top-ranked conference program even better.

Remember finally that TMC remains the only conference company in IP communications to guarantee your conference registration.

By the way -- we have yet to have a single person take us up on this guarantee (even after thousands of conferees) and we are proud of this fact.

For your hard-earned conference dollars you should just say NO to Industry Per/Sales-spectives.

Sprint Interview

August 15, 2006

Here is the partially edited interview I had with Tony Krueck, VP of Product Development at Sprint. This was a great interview for me as I really learned a great deal about what Sprint is up to and how they are embracing IMS. It is along interview but it wasn't edited down because there is some great content in here.

An eagle-eyed reader noticed this interview took place before the recent Sprint WiMAX news. Here is a link to that news.

Eicon Networks Buys Intel Dialogic Division

August 9, 2006

As I have been writing about for a few months, the Dialogic Division of Intel has been sold. Eicon Networks is the buyer and I am looking forward to finding out more details and sharing them with you.

This is potentially good news for the entire communications space for the following reasons. This division of Intel had the massive resources of corporate behind them but the challenge was for such a large company to focus on so many things. There are obviously synergies that will be lost as a result of this division being sold but on the flipside if this newly freed division goes back to its super-aggressive Dialogic ways -- it could result in much more rapid growth for not only for them but the industry as a whole.

Catching up

June 21, 2006

With all my travel lately I have been neglecting my blogging. I figured I would get right back into the swing of things with some links to interesting articles.

You hear me discuss building communities all the time. Well Electronic Arts has decided to purchase Mythic a company devoted to massively multi-player games. The trend towards community building continues to grow across industries and boundaries.

In an effort to increase internet security levels, eBay (I am a shareholder btw) and others have begun to urge Congress for better privacy laws.

Stories of Interest

June 8, 2006

Here are recent stories of interest. My favorite has to be Survey: IPods More Popular Than Beer followed by QUALCOMM's VoIP news and of course how often do I get to talk about JFK. The VoiceGenie news is old but the deal is closed and Google's spreadsheet news is analyzed in some detail.

Sonexis

May 22, 2006

The conferencing market is fascinating to me as it is an area of continuous high-growth. Many conferencing companies actually saw business conditions improve dramatically in the post-911 world where travel began to die off. Since 9/11 it seems companies are beginning to see more and more use for conferencing in their organizations. The conferencing growth charts I see are – off the charts.   You just can't talk about this market enough because it is growing so fast and as it does the technology allows more and more people to collaborate more effectively.
