ITEXPO West 2010 Update August 24, 2010

August 24, 2010

I have lots of exciting news to report about ITEXPO West 2010 Oct 4-6 in Los Angeles - there will be a total of 12 collocated events at the show. Some of these include, 4GWE, Smart Grid, M2M, CVx, SPEC, Cloud Communications, MSPWorld, SIP Tutorial, VI Peering, App-Time and Lightwave ONE. There is also a Social CRM Expo, MSP World and much more.

I am trying to keep my readers up to date on what is happening in what is probably the most exciting tech week of the year.

Supporting Customers on Facebook

August 24, 2010

I was in Manhattan this past weekend and was blown away by the number of ads I saw on billboards and on top of taxi cabs which didn't promote a company's Web site but instead their Facebook page. It got me thinking about social CRM and whether companies are leveraging social media beyond the URL. Interestingly I came across this TMC webinar which takes place today and focuses on the issue of providing customer service from Facebook pages. Check it out below - it takes place at 2:00 PM EST.

MSPWorld, Another Great Reason to Come to ITEXPO

August 23, 2010

ITEXPO has become one of the defacto tech events - starting out as a communications-focused conference it has slowly but surely become an umbrella event encompassing all the exciting segments of technology and communications. Now to put this in perspective, I am a techie - but I don't launch shows because I want you to come and see cool stuff. We have been adding collocated events at ITEXPO because we believe there is potential for the subject matter covered to make or save our delegates money.

We want you to be able to go to a single event and see so much opportunity that you will bring even more people to the next event and so on.

Hot Communications Trends August 20, 2010

August 20, 2010

I recently received a TMCnet What's Hot in VoIP newsletter which had a number of stories worth sharing. First off is Comcast who is losing VoIP share to competitors but is still moving forward with plans for WiFi roaming and philanthropy. I have noticed Time Warner WiFi hotspots popping up all around TMC HQ in Norwalk, CT but have yet been able to connect to the service. If I do, I will keep you posted on my impressions.

US Visa Fees Surge: The Good and Bad

August 16, 2010

This past Friday, US President Obama signed into law a new bill which drastically raises the cost of hiring foreign workers using H-1B and L visas from $320 to $2,320 in situations where a company has more than 50% of their workforce holding these visas and also having at least 50 employees in total. The chief sponsor of this bill is Senator Chuck Schumer who has been positioning himself as a protector of the American worker through other initiatives like the anti-offshoring bill which would add a 5 cent surcharge to domestic calls transferred overseas.

Let's look at the good and bad regarding this new legislation. The best part is it only applies to companies with 50 or more employees which thankfully shows the administration understands the importance of small companies to growing jobs and strengthening the economy.

Oracle's Larry Ellison Says Hurd Loss at HP a Huge Mistake

August 10, 2010

I spent some of the weekend covering the Mark Hurd resignation with a post titled Hurd's Resignation and HP's Odd Half-Decade where I discussed just how logic-defying the situation surrounding the ouster of this CEO is.

Some big news yesterday in the world of technology had to do with Mark Hurd and his resignation following a sexual harassment investigation where he was not found guilty. The woman allegedly involved with Hurd was a former contractor and according to a close source there was no romantic or sexual relationship between the two. What is unusual though is the company on a conference call characterized their relationship as "close" and "personal."

The woman allegedly involved with Hurd was a former contractor and according to a close source there was no romantic or sexual relationship between the two. I am at a bit of a loss to understand exactly what I just wrote means.

Book ITEXPO Now to Save Hundreds

August 4, 2010

Today is the last day to save hundreds or thousands on registration

We have been seeing an incredible stream of registrations for ITEXPO and related events and as is always the case, my team has done its absolute best to make this show better than ever. At TMC we take education extremely seriously and in a trade show market where companies regularly fold up and go away, we are proud to be putting on industry-leading events for 24 years.

What I have personally learned over the years is if you provide the best education to your customers with a wide enough array of topics, your attendees walk away very happy.
