Invitation Only Video Interviews in San Jose with TMC

June 29, 2010

OK - it is kind of weird to call it "invitation only" if I am blogging about it but somehow it doesn't seem right to not let you know that TMC will be on-hand in Silicon Valley performing a host of video interviews with the best and brightest minds in tech and communications at the San Jose Marriott Tues, JULY 13th - Thurs, JULY 15th.

A sample screen shot of an interview which took place just outside of Washington DC

Here is a link to the most recent interviews I posted from a similar trip to the Washington DC area. If you are interested in consideration be sure to reach out immediately to Jaime Hernaez (jhernaez (at) tmcnet.com).

Since word got out about these interviews the spots have been filling up faster than in any city we have gone to so please be aware we expect all spots to fill up soon.

Cloud Computing Boosts Data Center Market

June 29, 2010

Thanks to cloud computing, cloud-based storage, cloud-based contact centers, cloud communications and a mix of other services hosted in data centers worldwide, the data center market is booming. A solid article about the market comes courtesy of David Gross at Seeking Alpha.

Coincidentally I will be moderating an Interactive Intelligence sponsored webinar focusing on cloud communications at 2:00pm EST today (don't worry; it is archived if you get to this post later or are busy at this time). I hope to see you online- in the mean time here is an excerpt from the above-mentioned article.

SpaceNet, Angel.com, HyperOffice, Parature and other Video Interviews

June 28, 2010

Last week I was in DC and met with a number of companies in the surrounding area which I wrote about in this entry. In an effort to keep you up to date on more of the interviews I have posted others below and hopefully they are useful to you.

SpaceNet is a managed network services company with roots in the satellite space. The two videos below show the breadth of the company's offerings (Apple users click here: SpaceNet overview, Coms on the move)

Angel.com, a division of Microstrategy talks about their company's cloud-based IVR and contact center solutions for the global 2,000 (Apple link)

HyperOffice boosts small business collaboration and productivity - carriers/channel welcome (Apple link)

Parature is a leader in customer service solutions and enables 20M customers and a Facebook page near you (Apple Link)

Bay Bridge Decision Technologies makes strategic planning software for contact centers with 350+ agents (Apple link)

SkyBitz was formed from a DARPA grant and focuses on low-powered asset tracking and has over 30% market share in the trucking space. Using GLS not GPS, the company adds proprietary technology to solve for location on servers.

Leverage Social Influencers with Pursway

June 23, 2010

Human beings are extremely social creatures and the term social networking which we often tie to the electronic world of blogs, Facebook and Twitter is really just an extension of what humans did before the age of computers and interconnected devices. The difference between today's social interaction and those of the past is we can now measure and manage the process and leverage the interactions of the networks to help promote brands.

There is more of course as the efficiency of electronic communications means we don't need to use a telephone or pencil and paper to communicate and moreover people can reach entire groups with the minimal effort related to a simple tweet or status post.

People often turn to their friends and others they trust for opinions because they are hit with so much branding that they aren't sure which phone is best or which car has the softest ride.

Some TMC Newsroom Videos from DC

Communications in the Cloud Webinar

June 21, 2010

As the move to the cloud gathers steam, the competition has grown substantially and a trend worth watching is what happens to the pure-play cloud communications companies when the CPE competition migrates to the cloud as well? Recently Joe Staples, CMO of Interactive Intelligence came by the TMC newsroom to discuss his company's move to the cloud. You may remember Interactive Intelligence pretty much was the first and longest-running company to have unified communications products - they launched theirs in the mid-nineties. In two video interviews, Staples discussed the trend towards CaaS and his company's offering in the space.

Google's Thoughts on Apps Marketplace

June 15, 2010

Recently I wrote about the Google Apps Marketplace and how it brings a walled garden approach to the desktop and my thesis revolved around the idea that a few years back you could download any piece of software you wanted without having to go through a gatekeeper. I am not a fan of censorship of any kind - after experiencing a world where I could download any application to any computer I own, I am now seeing that this situation has changed for the worse. In my family there are various devices and more of them have Apples logos on them and the newer ones only allow you to install apps through the Apple approved App Store.

And I am fine with the idea that Apple likes to protect its users by screening for malicious software but many of my readers tell me they are very uncomfortable with their censoring of apps which they feel are offensive, sexually suggestive and/or competitive. I have nothing against Apple but I have everything against any company which limits the choices of my readers after they spend their money to purchase a product.

Phone.com and the Next Phase of VoIP

June 14, 2010

If you want to thank someone for lowering your phone bill, you have a few options - you can thank the founders of Skype and Vonage or go back to the nineties and thank the many people at VocalTec who invented and popularized VoIP before anyone else even thought of it. Much of the reason TMC decided to launch a magazine titled Internet Telephony back in 1997 was because we saw the transformational power of the IP telephony gateways and software which VocalTec produced.

VocalTec co-founder Alon Cohen is a personal hero for what he did by literally changing the way the world communicates. Moreover, I am often called by patent attorneys who are involved in patent cases regarding technology which Cohen invented many years earlier.
