Some Outside CES Shots

January 8, 2013

Here are some shots of the Las Vegas Convention Center where CES 2013 is being held. I will update you with more pics the rest of this week.

Avicii Makes CES Splash

January 8, 2013

As a huge fan of both telecom and electronic dance music or EDM the news that one of the EDM legends, DJ Avicii has teamed with Ericsson on a crowdsourced project which takes bassline, effects, melody, rhythms and vocals from you the public and turns it into a song. Ericsson will support this Avicii x You initiative using its experience in the cloud and of course wireless. For Avicii, this deal raises his profile further to a more "techie" crowd and probably pays pretty well. For Ericsson, they get to be associated with hip and new music and can leverage this proof of concept into other areas.

Ford Makes Big CES Splash

January 8, 2013

Here at CES 2013 Ford has a major presence and is pushing its gadget-friendly vehicles with a drawing for prizes.

FERRARI by Logic3 At CES

January 8, 2013

Here at CES 2013 at the FERRARI by Logic3 booth I checked out the Cavallino GT 1 Air, a 350W all-in-one sound system which shook the convention center with its rich and powerful sound. This thing gives Bose and B&W a run for its money. Ferrari not included.

The CES 2013 Trend? Body Paint and Hot DJs

January 8, 2013

Here at CES 2013 there is a trend towards hot female DJs instead of or in addition to booth babes as well as body painting and logo tattoos on booth personnel. The fight to get the attention of attendees gets tougher each year it seems.

CES: Another Booth, Another DJ

January 9, 2013

My first meeting of the day is with Ford and it came as no surprise to see another DJ in their booth. It's the sub-theme of the event it seems.

CES: LG Jumps into Wearable Computing

January 11, 2013

LG embraces the hot trend of wearable computing with a hight-tech wristband which is water-resistant. A fitness band app works on iOS and Android and plays games, sends data to friends, controls music and more.  The LG Smart Activity Tracker is a prototype for now  and is expected to be released this summer. There is no estimated price yet. Finally it works with the Let's Dance app on the LG Smart TV.

CES: Sharp Shows Off 8K TV Prototype

January 11, 2013

Just when you thought 4K television or Ultra HD was the most impressive technology to hit your living room, Sharp shows off an 85" 8K TV with breathtaking video quality. I estimated to a company representative that it would cost $55,000 and he suggested it would be even more if it was even available today. Suffice it to say it will be some years before you will see one at Best Buy.

Body Painting Crossed Line at CES?

January 14, 2013

Remember the CES trend I cited last week about hot DJs and body painting? Well it seems at least one of these items may have crossed the line – and I’ll give you a hint, it has nothing to do with music. You see there is a backlash taking place over Hyper’s use of women as “sex objects” at the recent 2013 CES. The reality is however that sex sells.

How CBS Just Ruined the Integrity of CNET

January 15, 2013

Recently the editors at CNET were about to give the best of show award at CES to Dish Hopper. The trouble started when CBS alerted CNET to a legal conflict over this ad-skipping product which shows recorded programs on iPads. As you might imagine, bringing notoriety to a product which destroys the revenue of your parent company was seen as a suicidal move by CBS. On the flipside was the integrity of the journalists who believed this product was the best in show.

The problem was, even though this product had already won, the directive was given from above that it had to be disqualified from consideration.
