Sennheiser Rounds Out Portfolio

March 17, 2014

The UC space is alive and well even as it moves from the customer premise to the cloud. To learn more about the market I had a conversation with William Whearty (pictured), VP Sales & Product Marketing at Sennheiser where he told me their 70-year history of making microphones and headphones shows we know how to reproduce sound.

Now, the company is making an aggressive push into various segments of the UC market and is working to add certifications.

New Huawei Ascend Mate 2 is a Big Deal

January 21, 2014

Do you remember when the best phone was the smallest and slimmest? It’s funny that at one time car keys were small and cell phones were big and then around ten years ago German car companies in particular started to make keys a bit shy of the size of some flip-phones. Then the market shifted directions when smartphones finally allowed decent web browsing.

It’s gotten to the point where many say when it comes to smartphones, bigger is better.

JetBlue Customer Care - Even Ponzi Would Be Horrified

January 7, 2014

Having been unfortunate enough to be part of an eight-hour weather-related delay as a passenger of flight #411 on January 4, 2014, my fellow JetBlue customers and I found out just how amazingly crappy the airline's logistics and service levels could be.

After we lost an entire work-day each, we waited yet another hour for luggage to come out - when it finally did it was for a different flight... A cancelled flight.

Frequent tweets to the airline and calls from passengers met with rude responses infuriating my these passengers who tweeted about their experiences.

Braven Intros New Wireless Stereo System at CES 2104

January 7, 2014

Braven showed off an entire wireless home audio system at CES 2014 with a few twists to give you advantages over some of the other players in the market such as Sonos. The company's Vibe series pictured above features a sharp aluminum and black look to differentiate it from most everything on the market. Moreover, the speakers are battery operated and bluetooth-ready meaning they can be useful in applications where your home WiFi network doesn't exist.

If you like the industrial look of these systems and additional functionality of bluetooth integration and battery-operated speakers, then the Vibe system could be a good choice for you.

Trying to get to CES 2014

January 4, 2014

I am trying to get to CES and so far it has been a challenge. My morning flight was met with a late ride to the airport followed by the longest lines at JFK I probably have ever seen. The storm yesterday which turned out to be much milder than predicted, cancelled lots of flights causing chaos here at the airport. My flight is delayed six hours and to make matters worse the JetBlue WiFi in the terminal doesn't work.

Touchfire 2.0 Shows iPad IS a Content Creation Device

March 9, 2013

When the iPad was first introduced so many pundits explained what a niche product this tablet would be as it didn't possess a way to create content - in volume anyway. This of course was a huge surprise to me because I did immediately create blog entries and articles on the device. After a while I did feel pain in my fingers from repeatedly hitting the glass surface, in-part, this is the reason I looked for solutions to my problem. Touchfire was a Kickstarter project I backed and covered - once to introduce it to my readers and another to discuss how long it took to actually get the product.

Is Apple Too Sexy for MWC?

February 15, 2013

In deciding not to exhibit at the Macworld events, CES and MWC, Apple has shown the world that it doesn’t need others to be successful. It can control the conversation far better when it holds its own press conferences which are invitation-only by design.

While this philosophy was very successful for a number of years, what Apple didn’t count on was the innovation gap between its products and the rest of the market closing to the point where a large-screen Android smartphone is actually preferable by the masses to the company’s iOS based phone offerings.

In other words – the “Apple attitude” we’re too sexy for your trade show was a great marketing concept for a number of years but now it seems like a bad choice.

Tactus: The Huge Smartphone Advance You Don't Know About

January 18, 2013

Ever hear of Tactus? The company develops an ultrathin membrane that sits over the display of any touchscreen device that is also essentially invisible when not in use. But should you abruptly desire the use of actual keyboard buttons beneath your fingertips, the Tactus membrane will suddenly spring into action on demand and magically create a raised and fully operable 3D set of keyboard buttons for you. Suddenly your touchscreen has an actual keyboard on it.
