Tunnel is the Professional way Call Centers Text Customers

September 4, 2017

WhatsApp revolutionized consumer texting. Slack did it for business. Tunnel wants to do it for call centers.

There is no shortage of vendors who will allow your call center to send text messages via an API.

StaffAlerter Provides Value in Emergency Notification and IoT

July 8, 2017

With terrorist attacks and other shooting incidents becoming commonplace, the need to quickly notify large groups of people regarding dangerous situations seems to have never been greater. While many of the solutions on the market are targeted at governments or large police departments, the emergency notification system on a budget market has been neglected.

Enter StaffAlerter, the infinitely flexible solution which combines the power of IoT-like sensors with IFTTT real-world flexibility. By this we mean that the system can be easily programmed to sense an emergency button being activated in the freezer and then proceed to unlock the freezer door.

Help Nominate Agents of Digital Transformation

May 25, 2017

We have some very exciting news to share!

The Agents of Change recognition program was developed to identify the leaders within companies that are helping transform vision and innovation into reality.

Nominate leaders you believe deserve special recognition for their ability to initiate and drive change in the industry. Your nominee could be from a large company, where change is often harder to implement, or from a smaller company or startup where, this particular Agent of Change has taken technological innovation to heart and is creating opportunities that have the potential to change not just a company, but the world, for the better.

GENBAND Enables Carriers to Take On Silicon Valley

April 18, 2017

In 2010, we told you Genband has become a mini Alcatel-Lucent for all practical purposes and we couldn't help thinking of this, almost a decade later as we sat, discussing the latest happenings at the company. GENBAND is actually not only a company delivering hardware and software, they have become a cloud-enabler for carriers worldwide. For example, Deutsche Telekom has a consumer app based on Kandy.

Who is GENBAND today? They are becoming the ultimate enabler of carrier communications solutions.

Alcatel-Lucent Enterprise Rainbow Powers Digital Transformation

April 15, 2017

Alcatel-Lucent Enterprise is making progress becoming a communications enabler and thereby an enabler of digital transformation via Open Rainbow, their "enterprise Whatsapp" solution which allows a company to customize communications solutions for various markets.

We first covered it in 2016 and there are now 40-50 low-level APIs allowing integration with applications in hospitality - room service for example, retail and more.

Moreover, the company tells us their solution is superior to OTT solutions such as social networks as the customer relationship stays within the control of your organization. Also, with routing, scheduling and communications control - you can be sure you're on the right side of various regulations which your industry may have to comply with.

The company's "no-memory APIs" allow fully anonymized calling for solutions which require such privacy. For example public services in France...

Sennheiser Shows the Future of Work in NYC

April 3, 2017

Sennheiser
and furniture company Wilkhahn recently held a press conference at their pop-up store in Greenwich Village, NY where the audience was treated to great content and the ability to try some of the company's high-end audio products.

The presentation started with pictures which showed the evolution of the office - from tightly packed desks, to offices, to cubes and now more casual informal settings replete with couches, huddle rooms and a few quiet areas for serious work. In other words, our collaborative future.

The takeaway? Well, it wasn't all that different from what many of us heard in the keynote room of ITEXPO in Fort Lauderdale, FL. Companies are changing to suit the tastes of millennials.

Greenfield Tech Has big news @ITEXPO

February 7, 2017

Greenfield Tech had a skew of news at ITEXPO 2017 in Fort Lauderdale, FL. Eric Klein and Nir Simionovich explained how the company has evolved their Cloudonix platform to be a Swiss Army Knife for telecom, consisting of media services, subscriber services and a SIP registrar layer.

One of the more interesting features is a backend cloud service and secure mobile SDK providing an end-to-end encrypted solution allowing companies to have secure conversations with customers. The idea is the communications within an app to a call center can be far more secure than the system we use today which has a number of issues.

For example, when a caller calls for help, their is no way to know for sure the caller is really who you might think as it is fairly easy to get access to personally identifiable information like social security numbers and maiden names, etc. Likewise, when a bank calls a customer, there is no way to know for sure it is the bank calling.

Cloud and Debt did Avaya in

January 24, 2017

8x8 has seen its stock triple in the past five years as they move upmarket and take share from telecom hardware players. Interestingly, this increment is the exact same amount of time its been since ShoreTel acquired M5 to provide cloud solutions to customers.

This is what we said at the time:
Cisco may now be forced to buy 8x8 and Avaya will likely make a move as well. This move could even push Vonage to go after the SMB space. Mitel is an interesting question - they have leading edge tech but a troubled stock to use as currency.

Zang to Grow Communications PaaS offerings at All About the API

July 20, 2016

Here at the All About the API 2016 show in Las Vegas I got a chance to catch up with keynoter Davide Petramela to talk about Zang. The company is a division of Avaya focusing on Platform as a Service – it isn’t unlike Nexmo or Twilio but the difference may be the Avaya tie-in meaning, the company can draw on years of telecom heritage and experience.

In some ways, it may be closer to Kandy from GENBAND.

His keynote focused on Disrupting the Pace of Innovation where he said, "The next level of innovation in the digital economy is driven by the ability to embed communications right into cloud-based applications.” He continued, “Zang is on the forefront with dramatically simple tools and APIs that enable developers and designers to build their vision in a heartbeat."

Microsoft Announces REST API Design Guidelines at All About The API Conference in Vegas

July 19, 2016

Gareth Smith the API Architect for Microsoft Graph announced onstage at the All About the API Conference in Las Vegas that the company has just open-sourced its REST API Guidelines.

These guidelines represent a multi-year, cross-company, collaborative process aggregating the collective experience of hundreds of engineers designing, operating, and running global scale cloud services from across Microsoft; and listening to feedback on their APIs from customers and partners.  They have attempted to incorporate those learnings along with industry best practices in the API space to create guidelines that API teams across Microsoft use on a daily basis.

The company said it hopes as a result of releasing these guidelines that:
  • They will further stimulate feedback on their APIs and their approach to building them to better serve customers.
  • Since they have benefitted from others in the API design community who have shared their guidelines, they want to contribute back. They believe that organizations of almost any size building APIs can benefit from having their own design guidelines.  Many companies and even organizations such as the Whitehouse have already published their design guidelines and it’s their hope that by contributing theirs to the community conversation, they can add to the body of community knowledge and reusable content so that anyone can draw upon more collective knowledge when looking to set standards and guidelines within their organization.
Customers really were at the heart of this decision and they were saying clearly:
  • It should be easier to get started with Microsoft APIs – Developers wanted to be able to run the curl tool against an API endpoint and get a human-readable result in just a few minutes.
  • APIs for Microsoft cloud services should be consistent – Developers didn’t care that an API to work with an Azure virtual machine and an API to work with a user’s Office 365 documents were developed by different parts of the company, they were both from Microsoft and developers expected consistency.

He discussed this after going onto the company's new initiative, Microsoft Graph which unifies the organizations disparate API strategy.

According to the company, The Microsoft REST API Guidelines, as a design principle, encourages application developers to have resources accessible to them via a RESTful HTTP interface.
