  • Interview of Nick Jensen and Doug Sabella by Rich Tehrani

Rich Tehrani, CEO of TMC, is a Communications and Technology expert, visionary, author and columnist who has guided the media company through a period of unprecedented growth. Tehrani, who has served as an expert witness and been quoted frequently in such publications as the Economist and New York Times, is responsible for driving the strategic direction of the company. Rich has personally conceived many of TMC’s most innovative, community-building media properties online, in person, and in print.

In 1995, Rich launched TMCnet and has since guided its growth into the world’s most robust b-to-b Web site covering communications and technology. As a computer engineer who graduated from the University of Connecticut, Tehrani helped architect proprietary content-targeting technology which allows TMCnet to rapidly build viral, search engine optimized, news-generated online communities called Global Online Communities (GOCs) and channels. These custom-built portals are an integral part of TMCnet, which reaches 2-3 million unique global visitors per month. According to Quantcast, TMCnet’s monthly readership is ranked in the top 3,000 sites in the world, while Alexa ranks TMCnet’s traffic in the top 1,700 sites in the US, and top 1,600 in India.

Rich is also the driving force behind ITEXPO, recognized as one of the World’s most successful b-to-b technology trade shows. Launched in 1998, ITEXPO is now one of the longest-running technology events in the world.

Tehrani has led TMC in many capacities since 1982 and has been instrumental in turning TMC into an engine for building communities online, in person via ITEXPO and via print/electronic publications.
