Inside Dark Web Conference: Why TMC Teamed with Alan Meckler

March 9, 2016

Alan Meckler is one of the brightest visionaries in the tech world having launched the first show covering the Internet in the 1990s – Internet World, part of Mecklermedia. He was underestimated and denigrated by virtually all the traditional tech publishers and trade show producers at the time, yet his event grew faster than any show I have ever seen.

I attended many of these conferences in New York and Los Angeles and saw with my own eyes how professionally run and vibrant these fast-growing shows were.

Dialpad is Reborn from Switch.co

March 7, 2016

Dialpad

was one of the coolest services ever… It allowed you in the 1990s to call any number in the US for free via the web. It caught fire around the world and was one of the first viral hits on the web. If was an app, it would likely be worth north of $100 billion today but sadly, there were no ultra-successful app stores at the time. And if memory serves, our phones weren’t smart, all they did was allow us to flip them open and talk.

Craig Walker, became a founding investor in the company and later sold it to Yahoo.

Synaptics Shows Off Thinner Screens, No-Touch Displays And Flexible Biometrics

February 29, 2016

It’s always great to meet up with the people at Synaptics – like I did at Mobile World Congress (MWC16) to see what the future holds from a touch-interface standpoint. Andrew Hsu, Head of the Concept Prototyping Team had lots of great information to share. First off, the company’s acquisition of Renesas SP Drivers and fingerprint sensor company Validity means great things for the world of touch-intensive applications. By having biometric authentication, capacitive touch and display technologies under one roof, the company is able to allow fingerprint sensors on the side of phones.

Top 10 Mobile World Congress Trends #MWC16

February 29, 2016

I’ve just returned from a whirlwind event for the telecom market known as Mobile World Congress and I’m still amazed by the amount of optimism I’ve just witnessed. It would not be an exaggeration to say this level of excitement about the future of telecom hasn’t been seen since 1998. Although it has great food, the city of Barcelona has a pretty poor economy.

Dialogic Plunges into Apps with PowerVille

February 9, 2016

By technology standards, Dialogic is a veteran – having been established in 1983, the company has supplied communications infrastructure used by carriers, enterprises and developers for many, many decades. The New Jersey company enjoyed the benefit of providing solutions which could be paid for by arbitrage. In the late eighties and nineties, Dialogic boards allowed companies to build computer-telephony solutions which used off-the-shelf computers to compete with custom-built hardware solutions from manufacturers of telecom equipment. Even though Dialogic boards were not cheap, solutions based on their products cost far less than alternatives on the market thanks to the ability to leverage PCs and servers.

PayPal CEO: More Change in the Next 5 years than Last 30

January 20, 2016

As the title of this piece implies - amazing things are happening in the world of technology which tie in nicely to the three more big reasons to come to ITEXPO next week in Fort Lauderdale, FL.

First up is an amazing new session titled APIs: The Future of Business. I recently spoke with a business leader who told me her company's APIs have led them to enter numerous new markets - ones that were literally unimaginable to them before they opened their platform to developers. The point is, the opportunity here is twofold. If your company has data or a service which could be of value to others, now is the time to explore how to monetize it.

45+ Webinar Best Practice Tips

June 25, 2015

A very comprehensive and helpful guest post by Pierre Kerbage, Senior Vice President at Ironton Global on how you can become a great presenter:

Ever hosted a webinar, or passed on a meeting to a fellow employee, only to be embarrassed by the outcome?

It is said that we learn more from our failures than from our successes. As a person who has been doing webinars, ever since the word (and the technology has existed), here is what I have learned.

Exclusive Interview with Aricent's Frank Kern at MWC 2015

April 3, 2015

It’s been a few years since I've covered Aricent (2012, 2009, 2006) but as fate would have it I was fortunate enough to interview Frank Kern, CEO at MWC 2015. This is one of the companies behind many of the products we use and one you likely don’t know a great deal about. It’s owned by KKR and Sequoia and is a pure-play product innovation services company – Kern explained his they don't do IT and BPO like others in the space.

Another differentiator is the company’s core strength is connectivity and there is a great demand for such services at the moment.
