Prediction: No More Hard Drives - Summer 2010

I question whether mainstream computers and laptops/netbooks will use hard disks by the summer of 2010. Sandisk has made dramatic improvements to solid-state drives they sell and their new G3 SSDs are more than five time faster than 7,200 RPM traditional drives. The price points (60GB - $149, 120GB - $249  and 240GB - $499) for memory based technology storage devices are still high but I think 18-24 months from now will be the turning point where the slight price premium will be worth the increased durability, faster performance and lower power consumption of solid-state hard drive technology.
