Digicel Points

I was in Aruba last year and noticed Digicel was the leading (only?) provider on the island. Digicel puts out a steady stream of releases and seems pretty forward thinking. As a monopoly provider you would think hey would sit back and count money. This doesn’t seem to be the case. They seem to always be doing something new. Most recently, This release caught my eye:

Loyalty Program Designed to Reward Customers

JUNE, 1, 2005, KINGSTON, JAMAICA - Digicel Group, the fastest growing mobile telecommunications company in the Caribbean, today announced the launch of Digicel Points, a new program designed to reward Digicel's loyal customers.

Starting today, Digicel customers will automatically start to accumulate loyalty points that can be used to receive significant reductions on the state-of-the-art mobile phones offered by Digicel, such as the impressive Motorola Razor.  Customers can redeem their points, starting in October, by simply bringing their mobile phone into any Digicel dealer store. There are no limits on the number of upgrades per year, and customers can check their points balance by sending a text message to a dedicated Digicel Points number.

According to Digicel Commercial Director, Sarah Gill, "Now more than ever it pays to be a Digicel customer. Digicel Points is not an exclusive scheme but open to every one of our customers and starts automatically. Points do not expire and customers can purchase additional points as they please."

Every time a Digicel pre-paid customer tops up their phone, they will earn a certain number of loyalty points. For Digicel post-paid customers, points will be earned based on monthly call usage and added to their monthly bill.

"Digicel Points is our way of giving back and showing appreciation to our loyal customers.  We are aware that our tremendous success over the past four years across our eight Caribbean markets is due to the support of our customers. It is thanks to them that we can play such a significant role in the Caribbean community," added Ms. Gill.

Digicel customer for four years, Mr. Errol Howlett from Jamaica, welcomed the introduction of Digicel Points, saying, "As a Digicel customer, I have always felt that Digicel is part of the community and connects with its customers. The company has proven its commitment to the region by bringing new services to market such as pre-paid roaming and rollover minutes, as well as their sponsorships and social initiatives. "

Since its launch in 2001, Digicel has become the fastest growing mobile telecommunications operator in the Caribbean.  In four years, Digicel has become renowned for competitive rates, unbeatable coverage, superior customer care, a wide variety of products and services, and state-of-the-art handsets.

By offering innovative mobile services and community support, Digicel has become a leading brand in the Caribbean and has placed the region at the cutting edge of mobile communications.

Digicel is incorporated in Bermuda and operates in eight countries including Aruba, Barbados, Curaçao, The Cayman Islands, Grenada, Jamaica, St. Lucia, St. Vincent and the Grenadines.  It is the largest GSM mobile operator in the region and plans to extend its footprint into other Caribbean countries.

The company is the lead sponsor of Caribbean sports teams including the West Indies Cricket Team, Special Olympics teams across the Caribbean and is title sponsor of the Digicel Caribbean Football Union Cup, which involves over 30 Caribbean countries and is an important qualifier towards the CONCACAF Gold Cup.
