Apple iPhone OS 3.0 Wows

March 17, 2009

While there likely isn't a smartphone on the planet that does not support cut and paste, Apple's iPhone users have been waiting patiently for years for something most consider entry level. The latest news out of Apple is that you will have to wait a little longer for this feature... This summer in fact when the iPhone 3.0 OS debuts with a host of great additions.

At that time you will not only get the addition of text copy/paste but also the ability to use the keyboard in landscape mode in all applications.

Acredo Technologies Update

March 16, 2009

You may have read that Acredo Technologies has closed down. This information is not exactly true. There are Twitter and blog reports regarding layoffs which I can confirm. Over the past six months we have seen many startups under pressure.

Arunas Chesonis the Secret Weapon at PAETEC

March 14, 2009

PAETEC like a slew of other voice and data providers is looking to differentiate itself but perhaps its biggest asset is CEO Arunas Chesonis (pictured) whose unique style allows him to impress you about the company's direction without coming off as boasting. In fact in a recent conversation with Arunas, he told me the company is still growing and hiring. He mentioned a large non-cash charge this last quarter which made the quarter look worse than it was. I researched a bit and in the company's recent conference call there is a discussion of a goodwill impairment charge which is related to the company's acquisition of McLeodUSA.

Thomas Howe Takes CEO Role at Jaduka

February 28, 2009

At TMC's ITEXPO earlier this month I had a chance to briefly chat with voice 2.0/mashup guru Thomas Howe. At the show he told me there was big news coming and he was soon going to become CEO of a major service provider in Texas. Of course I wanted to know more and Thomas didn't disappoint. Here is a detailed interview - his first since taking the CEO spot at Jaduka. There is also an audio file which is different than what you will read below - so if you want to know more or like to listen to interviews while you walk the dog, etc - check it out.

SheevaPlug and the Plug Computing Paradigm Shift

February 24, 2009

I long for the days when I could say paradigm shift with a straight face. I remember in 1998 I used to say it all the time in conversations. Portals, Ecommerce, web auctions, VoIP, etc there was so much innovation coming down the pike, it was amazing. But in a post web bubble, telecom bubble, tech bubble, housing bubble, financial bubble, ponzi-scheme bubble world I feel a bit jaded.

Calysto's PR Vibes on ITEXPO East 2009

February 24, 2009

Laura Borgstede's Calysto PR Agency just put out their popular PR Vibes newsletter detailing what happened at ITEXPO this month in Miami. The good thing about the newsletters Laura puts out is she calls them as she sees them. Take a look for yourself.

Laura, thanks for all the detail, it brings back good memories.

Freedom to Connect

February 24, 2009

I recently had a chance to sit down with David Isenberg and discuss his Freedom to Connect (F2C) conference which takes place March 30 & 31, 2009 in Washington DC. He reminded me the price for the conference goes up $100 on February 28 so you need to act quickly.

Update: David kindly offered readers of this blog $100 off if they register at this URL. So until 2/28 it'll only cost you $395, then after that, when the list price goes up to $595, your discount will still be $100.

There are a number of new speakers announced who join already-announced speakers such as the CIO of San Francisco, the CTO of Seattle, the Chief Technologist of the FCC, and the visionaries of Lafayette LA and Burlington VT municipal networks.
