Why Adobe Investors Should Be Scared

While it is way too early to say Adobe's Flash platform is doomed - it seems Apple is really pushing the issue of making it irrelevant. After years of not having Flash on the iPhone, developers (TMC included) have been making alternate plans and now many are looking at dropping support for Flash altogether.

Lack of Flash support on the iPhone is something I have referred to as the real Apple tax and the iPad, a device which has a processor powerful enough to make short work of displaying HD video doesn't have Flash support either. This confirms what a few people who formerly worked at Adobe have told me in the past - Apple doesn't want Flash on the iPhone - and apparently the iPad. Remember - some said the iPhone wasn't powerful enough to run Flash - the iPad certainly has the needed horsepower.

iPod, iPhone, iPad - Will it Be a Hit Too?

Steve Jobs just unveiled a new Apple iPad tablet - the iPad - with a 9.7 inch screen and weight of 1.5 pounds. Virtually all the rumors were right - I blogged about the potential screen sizes just this week in fact. The half-inch thick device is powered by an Apple processor - the 1 GHz A4 and can last ten hours on a single charge.

I am as excited as any tech enthusiast would be about a new Apple gadget which hopes to create massive success in a nascent category - tablet computers.

ITEXPO East 2010 Miami a Great Success Thanks to You

Danny Windham, Skype CEO Keynotes ITEXPO East 2010

The day you never get fired for buying "X" are over according to Windham who gave a keynote speech at ITEXPO East 2010 in Miami where he touched on how open-source has been responsible for reducing margins and costs in the communications space. Using Nortel as an example he explained how the value of the the company's enterprise assets dropped from a value of about $100 billion ten years ago to less than a billion dollars today. Open-source as he mentioned is one of the reasons for this drop in value and coincidentally, Digium is now ten years old according to Windham.

Jeff Rodman of Polycom Keynotes ITEXPO East 2010

This post was stuck in my drafts folder -- sorry for the late post.

Here in Miami, at the Miami Beach Convention Center, Jeff Rodman is giving a keynote where he explains how crucial it is to link together technology in such a way that it becomes transparent to users. Moreover he explained how the definition of "Now" varies by person meaning different people are at different stages of life based on time of day, day of week and/or time zone. What cultural implications are there to communicating 24x7?

Skype Takes Share, Upgrades iPhone App

Skype is now the largest provider of cross border communications in the world, by far according to a new report from TeleGeography. According to the research company, the rate of international calling has been growing at a steady compounded rate of 15% but in the last few years the slope has decreased as a result of the recession and of course, people switching to Skype.

In other Skype news, the company recently upgraded their iPhone app with some minor tweaks which sadly don't include push notification.
