Tehrani at Winter Olympics

January 13, 2010

After ITEXPO in Miami next week, I come back home, witness TMC's move into a new headquarters, head back down to Miami for a bar Mitzvah and then finally head to the Olympics in Vancouver, Canada. While there I will get a chance to witness the Nortel/Avaya IP network which powers the games and I will also have a chance to see the many innovations associated with the event. Many are outlined in an excellent article by TMC's Brendan Read.

I am excited to be at the games - it is an opportunity not everyone gets and I look forward to watching as many of the events as possible and reporting on the happenings.

Can't Miss SIP Tutorial at ITEXPO

January 11, 2010

One of the most trusted names in communications Carl Ford - was explaining to me recently how the upcoming tutorial on SIP at ITEXPO, January 20-22, 2010 in Miami will be the best session on SIP - anywhere. He mentioned it in passing and then I realized - wait a minute - I didn't even blog it. Am I being unfaithful to my readers? Well just in case, I decided to blog away.

Avaya/Nortel ITEXPO Details Video

January 11, 2010

The feedback regarding the Avaya session detailing the acquisition of Nortel's enterprise assets next week has been incredible. Hearing Avaya's new roadmap is crucial if you are a customer of Avaya and/or Nortel or of you are a reseller, partner, carrier or developer. We are thrilled that there is now one more reason to come to ITEXPO in sunny and warm Miami Florida next week. Be there and meet with Avaya and representatives of thousands of other companies.

Google Breaks Cardinal Supplier Rule

January 11, 2010

There is an unwritten rule that companies who compete with their customers are inviting trouble. When companies break this rule, generally their competition will use this information against them when there is a bid on the table. Over time, when you break this rule, it bites you in the rear.

Companies like Intel, who have a dominant position in the market, are generally able to bend or break these principles to some degree but for most others, you know where to draw the line.

How T-Mobile Can Take its Rightful Place

January 11, 2010

T-Mobile gets little to no respect in the US wireless market but when it comes to smartphones, the company has some hits on its hands. And when you have positive momentum, it is corporate malpractice to not do your best to keep it going. To that end, Carl Ford has some great ideas on how the wireless provider can parlay device success into financial success.

See Carl Ford next week at 4GWE where he is the community organizer. Carl would like you all to visit T-Mobile and listen to then speak at the collocated M2M Evolution conference which also takes place next week in Miami.

TMC Moves to New Headquarters Next Month

January 8, 2010

I just got back from taking a tour of final construction at the new TMC headquarters we will be moving to in February. It has been an exhilarating experience to have been in the communications and tech markets these past decades. I can't imagine any industry seeing as much change as we have - at the nexus of communications, tech and media transformation.

Our company is 38 years-old this year and the change in our products and services and competitive set over the last four decades has been beyond incredible.
