A number of communications companies are intimately involved in the hurricane in a number of ways. here is a summary. The Peoria Journal Star Online
reported in an article titled 100 people will be hired to answer hurricane calls
that these agents will be hired to take calls from hurricane victims. The agency in this case asked not to be named, this is an example of how contact centers are positively affecting America. Often referred to as teleservices agencies or business process outsourcing companies (BPO) these agencies handle volumes of calls for charities, corporations and even the government. Many times, these companies are also doing outbound calling which also is referred to as telemarketing. It is too bad the general media isnt as blood thirsty about giving press to these companies when there is positive/humanitarian news to share.VBrick Systems
is is supplying the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) with video technology allowing the FDOT to use video accessible via the web to allow emergency operations centers, police departments and transit companies to monitor traffic, allowing them to react to any situations that may need addressing. Finally, I received the following e-mail from Voiceglo
. I recently started to use their VoIP service and my experience has been great. I was on vacation and used their soft client and probably saved $100-$200 on long distance as I was on an island and the only alternative was using the hotel phone. I did have a problem with touch tones working with GloPhone but other than that, the system was flawless. VoiceGlo is located in Florida and put out a Hurricane alert. Here are the details.
