Nectar and Plantronics Ear-to-Ear Diagnostics to Boost Call Quality

April 2, 2018

The quality of phone calls varies for a variety of reasons from network congestion to weak headset batteries and wireless interference. This is why Nectar Services partnered with Plantronics to build an Ear-toEar (e2e) solution allowing the enterprise and carrier to track call quality across core networks, the internet/intranet and to agents answering phones.

With this new capability, service providers and enterprises can resolve issues faster, ensure superior call quality across the network and improve customer service. In an in-person interview with Tom Tuttle (right), SVP, UC Strategy & Global Alliances and Tim Armstrong (below), VP, Microsoft Practice at Nectar Services, explained they can measure call quality in real-time throughout the duration of the call.

They explained the increase in BYOD has become an issue which enterprises have to deal with when trying to provide superior call quality to workers and customers.

Nectar looks at the health of the platform, SBCs, clouds, network and endpoints, looking for router or WAN-segment issues.

“Correlation between user sessions and network health has always been our strength," said Tim Armstrong.

“As business communications services continue to evolve, it is paramount that the quality of those services remains superior. The last thing any business wants is to lose a potential customer or sale because of jittery VoIP,” said Jon Arnold, principal analyst, J. Arnold & Associates.

IoT and Blockchain Could Stop Package Bombers

March 20, 2018

The people of Austin are being deluged with package bombs. Within a few weeks, there have been packages left on doorsteps, connected to tripwires and early this morning exploding in a FedEx facility in Schertz, Texas. So far, two people are dead and four others have been injured.

Police have told residents to stay indoors. Obviously, if you don't leave your house, you need to order online.

The Real Reason Trump Blocked the Broadcom, Qualcomm Merger

March 13, 2018

U.S. regulators will often stop mergers and acquisitions because they are bad for the public in some way. Too much market control could inflate prices wildly, etc. When deals are killed it isn't always obvious why.

3Cinteractive Brings CMS and Orchestration to RCS Marketing

March 8, 2018

Thanks to RCS, rich messaging will be the default on all mobile devices meaning companies will have the ability to provide superior messaging and marketing to all customers according to Brian Heikes, VP, Product Mangement and Solutions at 3Cinteractive.

They recently launched some of the first campaigns on the Sprint network when they announced their RCS A2P deployment. Prior to this change, Sprint just allowed P2P RCS capability or person-to-person messaging. Now with the MAP solution, organizations now have the full power sending rich marketing messaging to all consumers.

In addition to the benefit of having RCS work on all handsets, its use allows companies to avoid needing to go through a BigTech gatekeeper who mines the data to sell competitive advertising.

In other words, if you look at the Facebook business model - the first step was to get companies to bring all their customers to the Facebook network by liking their pages. The next step was to charge companies for access to their own customers via algorithm changes and advertising.

Dallas is the Winner in the 5G Race

February 27, 2018

There has been a lot of 5G news out of MWC this week and when you study some of it, you see that there are certain cities which are way ahead of others in the 5G race. Perhaps surprisingly, Dallas seems to be the winner so far, followed by Atlanta.

  AT&T Sprint T-Mobile Verizon New York     X   Dallas X X X X Los Angeles   X X   Waco X       Atlanta X X   X Houston   X     DC   X   X Chicago   X     Las Vegas     X   Ann Arbor       X Bernardsville     X Brockton       X Denver       X Houston       X Miami       X Seattle       X Sacramento       X
There are a few things to note. T-Mobile has said it will roll out 5G in 30 cities and Verizon has announced the most cities so far. Another interesting point is Verizon has really decided to roll out in what seem like surprising locations which many of us have never heard of.

Trump Won't Build a 5G Network. He'll do This

January 29, 2018

Information recently leaked about a plan for a national 5G network run by the U.S. government and perhaps leased out to carriers. In another article, it was stated that the government has backed away from saying they will run the network.

This is not surprising to us. We doubt the government would run the network in any major capacity.

Digital Transformation Helps Lockheed Martin go Hypersonic!

January 16, 2018

Digital Transformation is becoming the buzzword of the decade and its meaning is rather broad. We like to call it the application of the latest computing technology to improve business processes. More specifically, using cloud, AI, cognitive computing, mobile, IoT, big, data, and other tech like chatbots and APIs. The list of technology is really never-ending, we could have added sharing economy, autonomous vehicles, smart cities, smart buildings, mesh networks, blockchain and so on.

Practically speaking, companies need to disrupt themselves or become new disruptors depending on the age of the organization.

Is it Too Late to Get Into the Smart Home Market?

December 15, 2017

Nest is doing a number on HVAC companies the way the iPod and iPhone did to music players and phones. Yet, as we have detailed before, as gorgeous as Nest thermostats can be, they can also be problematic, if your wiring isn't compatible.

We detailed recently how we had to run a C-wire to one of our thermostats to prevent it from turning on the air conditioning when heat was needed. We still have another thermostat which probably needs a C-wire as well or some software modifications to prevent the same problems. More to come on the matter next spring.

Nest, for its flaws has the first-mover advantage.

Exclusive CEO Interview with AIOps Leader FixStream on Oracle ERP Solution and Growth Strategy

November 28, 2017

Network complexity is literally growing exponentially and the ability for organizations to manage the increasing complexity isn’t growing with it. Staff budgets are often shrinking or staying level yet the sprawl of systems; servers, computers, sensors, etc. continues unabated. Without making use of artificial intelligence operations or AIOps it really is impossible to visualize your systems, let alone diagnose them quickly when a problem needs to be rapidly remedied.

Why Professionals Say to Avoid Nest

November 22, 2017

Nest thermostats look gorgeous but if your equipment isn't compatible, you are in for a lot of trouble setting up your thermostats. Having a 50-year-old home with AC and baseboard heat has made it difficult to get these devices to work properly.

Nest's tech support is good. We should know, we have spent hours on the phone with them to get the air conditioning working. A few months later, we learned the heat was not working properly at 3 am when we awoke to a home which was less than sixty degrees while air conditioning was being called for by the thermostat.

Thankfully, we were able to shut it down from our phone in bed.
