SIP Forum and UNH Team on Seamless Enterprise Communications Deployment

February 19, 2016

The SIP Forum recently announced it’s continuing to do its part to ensure enterprise communications products fully interoperate with service provider networks. In fact, its new SIPconnect Certification Testing Program will be hosted by the University of New Hampshire Interoperability Laboratory (UNH-IOL) and is designed to help ensure adherence to the SIPconnect Technical Recommendation currently at Version 1.1.

In an interview with Marc Robins SIPNOC Program Chair and Robert Kinder of Cox Business who also serves as a director, they mentioned the SIPconnect 1.1 spec is about five years old and is currently included in many RFPs. The goal of this new initiative however, is to increase interoperability between IP-PBX providers and service providers.

The idea is to plug in the box to the carrier with less headaches, in less time, and see installation issues and challenges which could have lasted weeks, be reduced to mere hours.

PayPal CEO: More Change in the Next 5 years than Last 30

January 20, 2016

As the title of this piece implies - amazing things are happening in the world of technology which tie in nicely to the three more big reasons to come to ITEXPO next week in Fort Lauderdale, FL.

First up is an amazing new session titled APIs: The Future of Business. I recently spoke with a business leader who told me her company's APIs have led them to enter numerous new markets - ones that were literally unimaginable to them before they opened their platform to developers. The point is, the opportunity here is twofold. If your company has data or a service which could be of value to others, now is the time to explore how to monetize it.

Lifesize Reinvents Itself in Cloud Video

January 14, 2016

CEO Craig Malloy explains the new company’s mission and strategy for the future

I first introduced you to Lifesize in 2007 explaining the company offered near telepresence quality at a fraction of the cost. At the time I said, “The goal of the company is to be the price/performance leader and I can vouch for the quality of their technology as I had a chance to see it for myself.” Two years later, Logitech, excited about the opportunity to move upmarket in the video space, acquired them for $400 million.

The move upmarket: Prior to this acquisition, I had a chance to cover Lifesize as it improved its technology with better quality cameras and other peripherals.

Zultys Upgrades its Communications Software

December 2, 2015

Unified communications vendor Zultys has been hard at work coming up with a new release and since it’s been a while since I’ve had a chance to share what they are up to, I reached out to interview Neil Lichtman, Chairman & CEO of the company. He was gracious enough to give his views on a range of areas from the future of unified to communications the challenges facing channel partners.

Is technology changing business for the better? Why/why not?

When Hired Gun Managers Fail

November 11, 2015

What happens when you intersect the Innovator's Dilemna with investment, ROI and stragic planning? Especially since new, disruptive technologies aren't adopted overnight - they can take ten years or more to be widely accepted. Conversely, investors are generally more short-term oriented.

Bottom line: markets have their own timing which require companies to adapt.

GENBAND's Kandy communications Platform-as-a-Service solution recently celebrated its one-year anniversary by bringing its KandyMobile vehicle to popular nightclub, LIGHTBOX in New York City on September 30, 2015. Kandy allows any developer to embed real-time communications into their applications fairly easily but more importantly, the solutions subsequently become carrier-grade.

They had a number of interesting demos at the event. SkywriterMD (above) had its demo on the bus pictured at the start of this post.

Salesforce and Microsoft Skype for Business Collaborate

September 17, 2015

Microsoft and Salesforce are getting cozy: The two have decided to extend their strategic partnership to connect their productivity apps and services, with the end goal of more personalized, customer-driven sales activities, achieved through streamlined collaboration.

The two leaders plan to mash up Salesforce with Skype for Business—which will be hosting a conference at this year's upcoming ITEXPO in Anaheim—OneNote, Delve and Windows 10, starting with the Salesforce App for Outlook, which works with Outlook 2013 and Office 365, and Salesforce1 Mobile App for Microsoft Office.

After that, Salesforce will next integrate Microsoft’s unified communications (UC) suite, Skype for Business (formerly known as Microsoft Lync) into its new Lightning Experience. Lightning is the renamed core customer relationship management (CRM) product for Salesforce.

Also in the second half of next year the two will launch the Salesforce1 Mobile App for Windows 10.

These two companies which were once bitter enemies have learned to work closely together - acknowledging the synergies between the dominant Salesforce platform and Microsoft's Skype for Business

solution which is growing rapidly.

In just two weeks, Paco Contreras, Herrera Director WW Product Marketing - Skype for Business will be keynoting ITEXPO in Anaheim, California and I hope he touches on this new collaboration and the benefits it will bring to customers worldwide.

Splice Software Uses the Power of Analytics to Expand its Product Line

August 31, 2015

Big data and analytics have had a huge impact on numerous spaces and certainly marketing is one of these areas. Perhaps the first mainstream story, in fact, describing the concept revolved around a retailer knowing a customer was pregnant before her family knew. The possibilities are certainly endless. You may recall a post I wrote some time back about IBM and the concept of digital Darwinism – the idea that companies that embrace new technology will win out over those that do not.
