NYC or France, Where Would You Locate Your Company?

January 7, 2017

New York City – whose moniker is “The City that Never Sleeps” has pushed to ensure your company never sleeps and in today’s connected and digital economy, this may be the difference between success and failure.

If you had a chance to choose a western region to locate your company and you had the choice of just New York City or France, which would you choose based on recent events? Moreover, if you had to make your decision largely based on recent government actions – let’s the last few weeks or so, which would you choose?

In other words, we are going to put aside tarriffs, currency, minimum wage, taxation, regulations, the availability of a solid slice of pizza, baguette or the availability of fine wine.

As we reported on Christmas Day of last year, France has a new law which allows people working for companies with 50 or more people to negotiate to not work after normal business hours.

T-Mobile Leapfrogs U.S. Carriers Again with Digits

January 6, 2017

It was actually over ten years ago when we wrote about Mobile Stick from Bridgeport Networks (now part of CounterPath), an innovative device you plug into your laptop so you can take your mobile calls on your laptop. The idea was to allow carriers to leverage VoIP to add value to their core offerings. For some reason, the idea just didn’t catch on at the time.

Fast forward to a few years ago, WiFi calling has come to most carriers allowing the cell call to be taken via VoIP.

2017 to be the Year of Blockchain, Bitcoin and Fintech

January 3, 2017

Cryptocurrencies are fascinating as they act as a commodity and are simultaneously a technology application. Bitcoin mining for example gets cheaper as Moore’s Law decreases the price of processors. With this in mind, in 2013, we gave you 15 reasons why Bitcoins were better than gold. Then something bad happened – hackers started to steal bitcoins – tens or hundreds of millions of dollars’ worth at a time.

French Law Rings in New Year by Sealing EU's Doom

December 31, 2016

Around the turn of the century I was in Europe in the summer marveling at people all around me with six weeks’ vacation. I asked Europeans and Americans – In an increasingly global market, how do Europeans compete with the Chinese who never take vacation (an obvious exaggeration – you get the idea). They had no answer.

A hotel room in French Polynesia - many of them have a glass coffee table with a movable top, allowing you to feed the fish from your room.

Some years later, Europe dragged the world into a financial crisis more than once.

ITEXPO Offers Displaced Carnival Workers Special Offer

December 25, 2016

Recently Carnival Cruise Lines in Doral, Florida, made the news because hundreds of their IT workers were to be transferred to outsourcing firm Capgemini. The lawyer for the workers call it a firing and Carnival says it is keeping up with evolving technology.

We at TMC want to do our part to help. To the extent that these workers need to update their skills to remain relevant in an evolving tech world and potentially look for new opportunities for employment, we invite them to take advantage of 50% off of our events coming to South Florida/Fort Lauderdale.

Mobilize Hopes to Boost Contact Center ROI

December 12, 2016

As automation touches every aspect of business, the contact center remains no exception as the move to improve this business has been constant from the PC-based software solutions like Telemagic in the eighties, CTI in the nineties, IP communications in the last decade and now the advent of intelligent agents or bots. While automated agents are available in a number of forms, ERICA from Mobilize is designed to be something new, different and more evolved.

Consider it to be an object-oriented IVR solution allowing rapid customization of the IVR without direct programming. Their Agent Maker software is supposed to be the solution to complex development needs.

2017 Predictions From Rich Tehrani

December 9, 2016

Without further ado, here are my predictions for the new year!!! What do you think?

  1. We will see major financial problems begin to take shape at hardware companies without a solid cloud strategy.
  2. Trump’s new offshore tax rules will bring a flood of cash to tech companies – much of this will be shared via dividends and buybacks but it will also find its way into M&A as well as new product development.
  3. Smart factories with low cost energy will make the US a major force in manufacturing but this prediction will need to take 10 years to play out and thanks to IoT and robotics, the factory of tomorrow will need 1/10th the workers of today.
  4. Chinese cell phone provider Huawei or Xiaomi will become a serious thorn in the side of Samsung – producing low cost phones for hundreds less than the Korean maker and selling them in large numbers outside China.

Almost 8,000 wireless repair businesses employ over 20,000 people and the market is growing. Yes, it’s a $4 billion dollar market! Apple’s next-gen phones are rumored to be all glass once again which means the market likely isn’t going away any time soon. Where however do the people in this industry gather to learn more about how to market themselves and how to drive more traffic to their stores?

Go!Foton Hopes to Advance Data Center and Carrier Fiber Transformation

November 23, 2016

Continuous advancements in technology and hyperbolic cloud growth is straining all networks at carrier central offices and data centers alike. Virtually all aspects of the data center have evolved - from Ethernet speeds to software defined networks and even SD-WAN. In corporate networks we've seen the rise of virtualization become table stakes for companies of more than about 25 people. Carriers have been moving towards NFV to gain similar benefits in their central offices.

Yet there hasn't been the same evolution in fiber management and connectivity and its the reason we interviewed Farshid Mohammadi of Go!Foton to learn more about his company's efforts in this area.

Tell us about your company, Go!Foton
