Verizon Vs. Vonage

March 12, 2007
Greg has done a great job analyzing the current situation of the Verizon versus Vonage patent lawsuit. It seems Vonage isn’t as concerned as others in the industry about this ruling. As far as Packet8 is concerned, the company does have a slew of patents and they are likely able to use this massive patent portfolio as a defense against Verizon and others. As far as I can tell, they are in the best position out of all the independent VoIP providers.

Of course this patent dispute seems to be a somewhat fluid process and many will speculate on likely outcomes until it is over. Let’s just hope the large companies do not wipe out any innovation in the telecom market by using their monopoly funded patent portfolios to wipe out innovation which serves the consumers best interest.

RE: Verizon Vs. Vonage

Can someone please point me to an article that describes the patents alledgedly violated, now they are used at Vonage, and how a Bell holding company was able to secure patents on the technology?
