Breaking Rumor: Verizon to buy XO

February 3, 2016

Spectrum is the new beach front property according to Peter Radizeski @radinfo and he has a very reliable source which tells him Verizon is in late-stage talks to purchase XO Communications.

More from Peter:

"XO is the largest owner of LMDS spectrum, currently [2007] worth $35.8 million, in the nation. NextLink, the wireless operation of XOHO, recently launched its broadband wireless services in Las Vegas and increased its wireless portfolio to 14 markets at the speed of covering 1 to 2 metro areas/month: Washington DC, Boston, Atlanta, Tampa, Miami, Nashville, Chicago, Kansas City, Dallas/Ft. Worth, Houston, LA, Seattle, Phoenix, Las Vegas - already more than its almost only competitor in LMDS fixed wireless services, FiberTower. The remaining large LMDS spectrum owner, Level 3, through its acquisition of Telecove." [seekingalpha] IDT also owned a chunk of this spectrum too.
We'll see if he is correct - I have a lot of trust in his scoops - he has been very accurate in the past. As a reminder, I told you about Verizon's Terremark spin off eight months before the Reuters exclusive.

Taoglas Adds Ecommerce to its Cable Solutions

September 13, 2015

Getting the correct custom RF cables, which are used in a wide range of wireless solutions, has long been a frustrating and overly lengthy process for engineers but now Taoglas has modernized the procedure with a new online cable assembly wizard that revolutionizes the whole transaction.

Dermot O’Shea, President of the company, explained to me at the CTIA Wireless show in Las Vegas, that his company has taken human interaction out of the equation. Although his company has manufactured cables in Taiwan for many years, he says the company’s new location in San Diego, CA will address the needs of companies who can’t wait for the cables to ship from overseas.

In addition, the company has new antenna solutions for IoT and has recently opened an office in Munich, Germany to serve the automotive among other markets.

Accuris Networks Helps Stich Together Cellular and WiFi Networks for Carriers and ISPs

September 13, 2015

This past week saw the launch of a plethora of new Apple devices – specifically two new phones which will shoot and edit 4K video as well as a new iPad Pro which sports a massive 5.6 million pixels. Moreover, the phones have 12MP cameras which replace the previous models which had 8 MP. That’s a 50% increase in potential pixels in photos. What this means, is even more demands on wireless broadband networks as these phones hit the market.

Dialogic: The Software Powering Next-Gen Networks

August 27, 2015

Much of the communications solutions industry owes a debt of gratitude to Dialogic – the company that really helped pave the way for the once disparate worlds of voice and data to work together. The company was a major player in the communications enabling equipment market in the eighties and nineties allowing "off the shelf" computers for the first time, to host telephony apps. If you’ve heard the acronyms CTI or computer telephony integration or just plain CT it’s because Dialogic, NMS and a few other companies permitted computer servers to handle media processing tasks. If you’re interested in more about the company – check out my posts or those on TMCnet.

August 5, 2015

The US Government’s Federal Reserve has kept interest rates low for longer than any time in my lifetime. It is unprecedented really. As a result, companies are able to grow quickly through acquisition. In fact they are being forced to in many cases to stay competitive.
