Westchester Airport Evacuated

September 13, 2010

I just got word that the Westchester, NY Airport has been evacuated - TMC has a team member on a JetBlue flight at the moment and apparently people have been pulled off planes. Update, my team tells me they are back on flights and as far as I know they have taken off.

Norwalk Oyster Festival 2010

September 13, 2010

I spent some time this weekend at the 2010 Norwalk Oyster Festival in Norwalk, CT where TMC headquarters are located. Without a doubt the motorcycle jumps were the most amazing part of the event this year which consisted of rides, all sorts of food and trinkets of every variety.

There were lots of products at the show I am not sure you could find anywhere else. I many photos and as you can see I was really impressed with the jumps. All the shots below were taken with an iPhone 4.

How not to Jump a Monster Truck

September 3, 2010

While my U.S. readers may be getting ready for the holiday weekend they may be interested in the following video which explains exactly how you should not jump your monster truck. Note to readers - don't use a 45 degree ramp when you jump unless you are a HUGE fan of dirt.

Thanks to Wired for alerting me to the video and also to the fact that there is such a thing as HD video recording sunglasses pictured below.

For my international readers - this is what we do here in the U.S. for fun on the weekends.

Early Morning Star Trek Geekiness

September 3, 2010

For those of you who are drinking your coffee this morning pondering the evolution of Star Trek warp jumps ( you know who you are  ) here is a video clip which I discovered from Gizmodo which shows you how the special effects progressed.

Apple, Sony, Microsoft, Google and ITEXPO News September 1, 2010

September 2, 2010

It has been an extremely exciting week again for tech news and moreover for me personally as I got a chance to open up my Sony Dash and it is a very cool addition to my desktop as it allows me to view my photos and take advantage of widgets of all kinds which among other thinks allow me to see the pandas at the San Diego Zoo. This handy gadget has a slew of communications, social networking and calendar features as well but for now, I just want to see the pandas.

The big news from yesterday of course was Steve Jobs onstage pushing a slew of new iPods and a rental-only model for Apple TV and a social network integrated into iTunes.

Reasons You Can Be Successful

August 18, 2010

I am one of those people who believes anyone can be successful at virtually anything they put their mind to. Obviously within limits but you get the idea. So I read with horror the headline: 9 reasons why you will never be successful. Turns out the post is really a self-help styled blog post and is pretty useful.

Rich Buchanan Passes Away

August 15, 2010

One of the saddest posts I have had to make has to do with the passing of Rich Buchanan the former CMO of Ooma. Well regarded in the consumer electronics space and having a fantastic grasp of the communications market it was an absolute pleasure to work with Rich.

He was knowledgeable and good-natured and I enjoyed the time I spent with him.

I had heard his health was poor so I reached out this last May via Twitter to see how things were. He responded that his surgeons said he needed a bit of "tune-up" work and then he would be good as new.

TMC editors in San Jose Next Week

July 8, 2010

Next Week, my team and I will be hosting meetings in San Jose where the technology and communications markets will have unprecedented access to TMC editors and the ability to tell their story in TMC's video newsroom. Since I blogged about the opportunity a while back we have already scheduled over 60 meetings. We are subsequently flying more of our team out to the west coast to handle the meetings. The good news is there is still some more space left for meetings now that we have decided to send more resources cross-country from our headquarters in Connecticut.

Moreoever, this event now has networking potential meaning you will not only meet editors but others in the industry.

BP Oil Spill Symbolizes Dissatisfaction with Government

June 17, 2010

Watching the Congress grill Tony Hayward kept me from peak productivity today as my frustration with the government boiled over. After listening to the back-and-forth it became more apparent than ever why the approval rating for Congress is so abysmal as it quickly became clear that the banter had more to do with having sound bites for reelection commercials than for any other reason.

Many of the questions in the hearing had to do with why BP hasn't fixed its problems with safety and it was pointed out repeatedly by government officials that BP has been plagued with such challenges for many years. But Dear Congress, my readers and I pay your salaries and are wondering - If you knew this company had such a bad safety record, why did you allow them to drill in some of the most deep and difficult waters on the earth?
