I'm an airline pilot and I see the struggles that go on with the luggage situation. It's a real shame and it's not getting any better. The only two times I've ever had my luggage lost was on my own airline! Whenever I check a bag, I pretty much have a contingency plan in place with the expectation of losing all of it.
