3Cinteractive Brings CMS and Orchestration to RCS Marketing

March 8, 2018

Thanks to RCS, rich messaging will be the default on all mobile devices meaning companies will have the ability to provide superior messaging and marketing to all customers according to Brian Heikes, VP, Product Mangement and Solutions at 3Cinteractive.

They recently launched some of the first campaigns on the Sprint network when they announced their RCS A2P deployment. Prior to this change, Sprint just allowed P2P RCS capability or person-to-person messaging. Now with the MAP solution, organizations now have the full power sending rich marketing messaging to all consumers.

In addition to the benefit of having RCS work on all handsets, its use allows companies to avoid needing to go through a BigTech gatekeeper who mines the data to sell competitive advertising.

In other words, if you look at the Facebook business model - the first step was to get companies to bring all their customers to the Facebook network by liking their pages. The next step was to charge companies for access to their own customers via algorithm changes and advertising.

As Enterprise Tech Buying Habits Change, Are You Ready?

January 17, 2018

Thomas Saueressig, SAP SE’s 32-year-old chief information officer, looks for commitment when evaluating vendor pitches. Technology firms that get his attention are those “with which I feel confident I can build a long-term strategic partnership,” Mr. Saueressig, one of the corporate world’s youngest CIOs, told CIO Journal's Angus Loten in an email.

That kind of brand loyalty is far less important to older IT buyers, according to new research by Spiceworks Inc., a networking platform for IT professionals, which identified key generational differences in how enterprise IT buyers find and engage with technology vendors. At the end of 2016, the number of millennials in the U.S.

Pictek Fast QI Wireless Charging Pad Review

November 13, 2017

When we received our iPhone X, we knew we had to try out the wireless charging feature of the new device. The iPhone 8, 8 Plus and X models are the first iOS devices to support wireless charging using the Qi standard we told you about some years back.

To that end we were sent a Pictek Fast QI Wireless Charging Pad for review. This charger is slim and light. You have to use your own power block/USB port as one is not included.

The first thing we tested was if we could use the charger with the magnetic plate on the back of our phone used to mount the phone on our desk and car vent.

Sadly, the metal plate blocks charging.

Dongles: The iPhone Weakness Samsung Begins to Exploit

November 6, 2017

Apple used to abuse Microsoft in its Mac Versus PC ads. They hired a chubby Bill Gates looking actor John Hodgeman to represent the PC while they hired the hip, cool and young Justin Long to represent the Mac.

One of the most compelling ads focused on the lengths PC users needed to go to to connect a camera to their systems.

The ad below shows the PC having a camera literally duct taped to their head.

Frankly it was embarrassing to use a PC after seeing these ads.

Apple however has unwittingly made itself a target of the same type of attack ad.

The minimalist designs Apple releases are gorgeous but they drastically reduce functionality. The Mac laptops and iPhones have this problem - thanks to reduced ports for things like headphones.

Users need multiple adapters if they want to use a 3.5 headphone with their iOS phone.

See the screen shots and video below Samsung is using to take on Apple. If they were to take the dongle concept and really focus on it in TV ads, it could put a dent in the Apple halo.

Galaxy S8 Outdoes iPhone X in Freeze Test

November 6, 2017

The screen test below shows what happens when you put two of the top smartphones on the market - the Samsung Galaxy S8 and iPhone X in water and then freeze them overnight.

Two frozen phones - which one will survive?

The Samsung is unscathed but the iPhone X loses its Face ID ability, its screen doesn't work properly and it seems to have lost its data.

Wait, what happened to all my data?

Even worse - the entire battery of the iPhone gets used up while the Samsung still has about 40% left.

Most likely, a gap opened up in the iPhone during its blowtorch melting causing water to get it. This in turn seems to have led to a short circuit or even more than one.

The iPhone X green screen of death - apparently competition with Microsoft BSOD is fiercer than we thought.

Bottom line: The Samsung Galaxy S8 is an absolute champ in this test - iPhone X users should avoid leaving their phones in water in the freezer overnight.

The video below shows the freeze test comparison in full:

Digital Transformation Gone Wrong: Did Macy's Fail?

October 19, 2017

Amazon will be moving into six floors at 300 Pine Street, a historic epicenter of Seattle retail, home to Macy’s. In fact, Amazon has committed to approximately 1.2 million square feet of new office space in Seattle recently.

Do you remember when Macy’s was Amazon?

There was a time when you could buy underwear, a stereo system, a bed, knives and forks and just about anything at Macy’s.

Invoxia NVX 200 Phone Connects to Apple Watch 3

October 17, 2017

Forget Dick Tracey, Invoxia takes your watch phone one-step further by allowing you to use a desk phone as the interface to your Apple Watch 3.

Technically, it is impressive to think you no longer need a phone - your watch connects you directly to the cellular network and bluetooth connects the watch to the Invoxia NVX 200 phone.

Serge Renouard, CEO and cofounder of invoxia said, “The Apple Watch 3 is part of this new step in the history of technologies that frees us from succumbing to the object." He continued, "The conjunction between cloud and specialized, contextual equipment like the NVX 200, allows any professional wearing only an Apple Watch to benefit from the perfect equipment at the office – the kind that spontaneously connects to the watch and turns it into the best of desk phones”.

The dock comes with an adapter system that allows it to also plug into smartphones regardless of connector such as USB-C, Micro-USB or Lightning.

Why Apple's Dropping its Pants With New iPad Price

March 21, 2017

This new device is a dramatic departure for the company... Here's why

If you look at the innovations of the iPad over the years, the device has gotten significantly more powerful as well as lighter with each iteration. The company pioneered a Smart Cover and a Smart Keyboard and even launched a pencil - although, they didn't pioneer that... In fact it was avoiding the use of a stylus that got the company to where it is today...

Surprising 2017 Tech Searches

February 13, 2017

We spent some time compiling what the community of tech buyers is searching for on TMCnet this year and were a bit surprised. The top result was Orange - the U.K based carrier followed by the largest tech company in China - Huawei and then the FCC and Verizon. Why Orange, we wondered? Nortel was a bit of a surprise to us as well because they no longer exist.
