Digital Transformation Gone Wrong: Did Macy's Fail?

October 19, 2017

Amazon will be moving into six floors at 300 Pine Street, a historic epicenter of Seattle retail, home to Macy’s. In fact, Amazon has committed to approximately 1.2 million square feet of new office space in Seattle recently.

Do you remember when Macy’s was Amazon?

There was a time when you could buy underwear, a stereo system, a bed, knives and forks and just about anything at Macy’s.

Invoxia NVX 200 Phone Connects to Apple Watch 3

October 17, 2017

Forget Dick Tracey, Invoxia takes your watch phone one-step further by allowing you to use a desk phone as the interface to your Apple Watch 3.

Technically, it is impressive to think you no longer need a phone - your watch connects you directly to the cellular network and bluetooth connects the watch to the Invoxia NVX 200 phone.

Serge Renouard, CEO and cofounder of invoxia said, “The Apple Watch 3 is part of this new step in the history of technologies that frees us from succumbing to the object." He continued, "The conjunction between cloud and specialized, contextual equipment like the NVX 200, allows any professional wearing only an Apple Watch to benefit from the perfect equipment at the office – the kind that spontaneously connects to the watch and turns it into the best of desk phones”.

The dock comes with an adapter system that allows it to also plug into smartphones regardless of connector such as USB-C, Micro-USB or Lightning.

Why Apple's Dropping its Pants With New iPad Price

March 21, 2017

This new device is a dramatic departure for the company... Here's why

If you look at the innovations of the iPad over the years, the device has gotten significantly more powerful as well as lighter with each iteration. The company pioneered a Smart Cover and a Smart Keyboard and even launched a pencil - although, they didn't pioneer that... In fact it was avoiding the use of a stylus that got the company to where it is today...

Surprising 2017 Tech Searches

February 13, 2017

We spent some time compiling what the community of tech buyers is searching for on TMCnet this year and were a bit surprised. The top result was Orange - the U.K based carrier followed by the largest tech company in China - Huawei and then the FCC and Verizon. Why Orange, we wondered? Nortel was a bit of a surprise to us as well because they no longer exist.

Top 10 Mobile World Congress Trends #MWC16

February 29, 2016

I’ve just returned from a whirlwind event for the telecom market known as Mobile World Congress and I’m still amazed by the amount of optimism I’ve just witnessed. It would not be an exaggeration to say this level of excitement about the future of telecom hasn’t been seen since 1998. Although it has great food, the city of Barcelona has a pretty poor economy.

Inhance Trade from Inhance Technology Keeps Mobile Customers Coming Back

September 24, 2015

One of the most important aspects of the wireless market is the smartphone trade-in program as evidenced by recent news that Apple now offers its own upgrade program and Sprint tried to outdo the entire industry with a paltry $1 per month upgrade plan for customers with iPhone 6 trade-ins purchasing a 6s.

In a conversation I had recently with Inhance Technology, I learned 90% of customers don’t come back to the same retailer they purchased a device from. The company has a solution to help improve the odds of attracting a customer back into the store to upgrade. Their recently announced the Inhance Trade program which uses a variety of mechanisms to target specific devices, plan a specific action and determine when the action should take place.

Monoprice USB-C Cable Line Provides Real Value

May 12, 2015

Recently I spent some time at Interop with executives from Monoprice, the company more well-known for inexpensive HDMI cables and audio equipment. It’s worth noting the media generally loves Monoprice… Their products are known to be of high-quality while being low cost. I have ordered from them – some audio cables actually and was happy as well.

In a conversation with Manual Hernandez and Eeric Krause, they told me their go-to-market strategy is different than most companies.

Awesome Cyber-Monday Phone Battery Charger Deal

November 17, 2014

My family has had great experiences with the PowerSkin PoP'n Battery Charger as the device has suction cups and sticks to the back of your phone which means no additional cable is needed. Best of all, since it isn't a case, you don't have to worry about the difficulty of separating your phone from the case. The only drawback is the base can be a bit fragile under heavy stress situations as you might expect. Still, this is a great battery and I endorse it fully because of the case-less and cordless charging capability.

The company will soon be selling these chargers for 1 cent and $7.99 for shipping.

Birdstep Improves Wireless User Experience, Reduces Churn

October 17, 2014

A smartphone user can get tripped up easily when in motion as today’s smartphones look for WiFi networks to connect to and oftentimes aren’t able to fully connect to such signals, meaning a phone’s broadband connection can be in limbo. Nothing can be more frustrating than having connectivity issues like this when your GPS software is trying to determine which route has the least traffic and you need to decide whether to go right or left at a busy intersection.

Poor service quality which can be caused by the arbitrary switching to an inferior network leads to churn and churn costs a carrier money. Quality issues don’t just center on data as quite often a challenge for carriers is providing voice service levels which are solid enough to keep a customer happy.

Apple iPhone 6 Plus: Top 20 Must Know Thoughts

October 6, 2014

After spending a good deal of time with the iPhone 6 Plus, I feel confident enough to point out its pros and cons. Hopefully you’ll find this list useful when making a decision regarding a smartphone purchase.

Pictured above: iPhone 6 and big brother/sister iPhone 6 Plus

  1. Perhaps the best feature of the phone is the superior antenna, thanks in part to the larger size of the phone and technological improvements by Apple like support for 802.11ac. If you used a 5s or smaller device you have likely experienced the challenge of seeing a WiFi signal but not being able to connect with it in a meaningful way. In other words, the phone is receiving a signal from an access point but doesn't have a strong enough signal to establish a connection of any value.
