Skype's Enterprise Assault

Skype has been doing a great job integrating with Asterisk, ShoreTel, Nortel, Cisco and others. It took years to get the ball rolling but now the momentum is strong and further shows just how serious the software-based phone company is about integrating with SMB and enterprise customers.

I spoke with Ian Robin Skype's Head of Commercial Development Business regarding the progress the company is making integrating with equipment providers and the channel.

The video below has the details.

I keep hearing all this great news about Skype for Asterisk, Skype for business, Skype for SIP, etc. However, from what I've seen the only codecs being supported are G.711 and G.729. Why in the world isn't Skype pushing the SILK codec?! Is it because they're worried about writing channel drivers for various and disparate systems? I'm scratching my head on this one. (See my blog for more rantings: http://telecommusings.blogspot.com/)

Well, anything that increases VoIP exposure and usage is ultimately a good thing I suppose, however the lack of HD in all this stuff has been a downer for me. I'm still more excited about the "hack" of using mod_skypiax with FreeSWITCH and being able to transcode to/from SILK with other codecs.

Thanks for the post and interview and please keep up the good work!

I like this chap, he seems a bit camp, but nothing wrong with that sort of thing. Think he could look good in chaps and a bushy moustache

I would just like to defend him, I see him at the sweatbox in SOHO, www.sweatboxsoho.com, for anybody who wants to join us, during the week and he is the nicest giving person i know, he doesnt take alot though, all give. And he looks great in chaps but not such a bushy moustache, nice pencil thin one.
He's a great guy and hopefully a friend for life. Go girl
