It is possible for a person carrying a 970 square foot synthetic surface mimicking what some insects in nature possess to live indefinitely under water. This would be possible if water was flowing sufficiently fast enough over the synthetic material to allow carbon dioxide out and oxygen in. Liek a shark we would need to keep moving. We would also have to be careful so that methane from stagnant pools of water don’t contaminate the breathing supply. While this discovery doesn’t seem like it will have us living underwater anytime soon, it does make one wonder if underground cities like Atlantis or Naboo from Star Wars are that far away.
