The one area Verizon Wireless might want to look into is Akron , OH where the EVDO speed rivals snail mail. The good news about my stay is that the University of Akron WiFi Access is ubiquitous throughout their campus. I spoke their today. The one challenge is how tight the WiFi security is. I was talking to many of the tech people who were explaining the horrors of protecting a network from students who seem to click on any link. As a result, I couldn’t send e-mail, connect to remote desktop or do just about anything. I could only surf the web. When I had to send I connected to EVDO and just waited and waited and waited. This is a good example of how hackers have made life difficult for people who need technology to stay productive.

Hi Rich,
I live in Akron, Ohio and have been using Sprint's EVDO since Jan '06 and it works great.
I've raved about it a few times in alt.cellular.sprintpcs.
Sorry to hear you had so much trouble with Verizon.
Todd W.
Thanks for the comment. I suppose Akron is a big place and any time someone makes a declarative statement like the one I made above it can be proven wrong. I hope for the sake of the people in Ohio that my experience was not indicative of EVDO as a whole in the region.
Thanks for the counterpoint.
