Profit: The Real Reason Whitman is Backing Clinton

HPE is a leading user of outsourced workers and skilled immigrants

People generally vote their own self-interest and in most cases they align themselves with the party which best matches these interests. This isn’t always the case but seems to hold up as a general rule.

Eric Schmidt for example backed President Obama and as a result they aren’t dealing with the antitrust issues they are faced with in Europe. In addition to other perks they have received unprecedented White House access. Google has visited Obama at least 128 times! Defense contractors in the top 50 in total, visited the White House only 89 times in the same period!

Donald Trump has stated he will drastically reduce illegal immigration and even legal immigration from much of the world. In addition, he has threatened to stop companies from moving work overseas.

The simple law of supply and demand tells us the less workers there are, the more the salary will be for each. In other words, wages are being suppressed by a glut of labor.

The issue came up recently in an ad run by a pro-Trump PAC where Clinton says in a speech to an Indian group that there is no way to stop outsourcing.

Silicon Valley needs cheap labor. They are huge outsources and use contract manufacturers who typically make things in places like China.

Specifically, last year HPE CEO Meg Whitman said she would offshore 60% of the workforce in her consulting business.

One imagines a Trump administration would make life very difficult for a company which intentionally hurts U.S. workers. As a result, Meg Whitman voted with her company’s pocketbook. She did the right thing for HPE shareholders by throwing her support behind Clinton.

The question now is whether American workers realize what the difference will be in a Trump versus Clinton administration – the former will do his best to protect American jobs while the latter will allow jobs to continue to flow out of the country and be taken by lower cost immigrants.

The Whitman endorsement is important for Clinton and comes during a week where Trump is under assault from the media. Still, if his campaign is able to explain what happened here, his views could get even more support from the typical American worker worried about losing their job.
