Video Game Marketing

I gave a keynote presentation yesterday on the next generation of marketing and it was one of my favorite speeches to date as it was something new and different to discuss. I got to speak about all the latest technology options for companies and how they tie into marketing and allow companies to connect with consumers in new ways.

I had a few examples in my presentation and in a few weeks I will be able to post a video of the presentation so you can see it for yourself. A few things I discussed were how companies could use twitter, social networks, web 2.0 and other ideas in their marketing campaigns.

Moreover I discussed how Burger king is using video games in their marketing and how KFC is using mosquito ringtones in their TV ads to appeal to the younger demographic.

I was reminded of the presentation when I learned today the Army is also using video games as a way to market to prospective recruits. The Army is not alone…. It seems many companies are leveraging the power of video games to reach their prospective markets meaning one day we may see all video games being supplied for free with advertisers and sponsors footing the bill. See the full story here.

Doritos did the same thing recently by turning their site into an all out interactive site educating snackers on the two new flavors and even including a fighting game in which the snacker could choose to be either one of the flavor and fight against the other. The fighting game can be found at http://fftf.doritos.com/ is quite entertaining and can be a productivity killer.
