Great Geek Gadget Gifts

December 21, 2011

Many of us will be shopping for our favorite geeks and geekettes this holiday season and with all the sites out there from Thinkgeek to Buy.com and Amazon – how on earth do you find the ideal product for that person who would rather look at their device than your eyes when you talk?

Thankfully, TMC’s Rich Steeves has all the answers you need with an assortment of gifts for men and women who like their gadgets and videogames. I hope you find the video below useful.

YouSendIt on new Electronic Signature and Cloud Offerings

August 24, 2011

I recently sat down  for a talk with Mihir Nanavati, senior director of Product Management of online file sharing company YouSendIt and got a chance to learn about how the company has expanded its service offering from sending large files via email to mobile apps, e-signature technology and cloud storage.

The company is looking to continue to make products and services which are easy to use - and over time the company hopes to sell more management solutions to the enterprise to more effectively manage what the users are doing.

One interesting stat is more than 61% of knowledge workers store their information in e-mail. Actually, I am surprised the number isn't larger.

Here is an article about the interview which is worth a read if you are in a meeting or don't want to watch the video.

Latest Trends in Speech Technology, CRM, IVR, Collaboration and Cloud Computing

Speech analytics in greater demand

At the recent SpeechTek 2011 conference in New York I gained some great insight into the state of speech technology. For example, Jeff Schlueter of Nexidia told me his company’s speech analytics solutions have been in greater demand in this current economy as the desire to control costs has led to increased adoption of speech analytics. In addition, the company has released version 9.0 of its Enterprise Speech Intelligence product suite which cuts the TCO in half and allowing for customers to handle even larger amounts of data.

Voxeo goes big

The idea of handling larger systems was echoed by Dan York of Voxeo who told me the latest version of the company’s new VoiceObjects 11 solution has scaled for a mix of global carrier and enterprise customers to handle 20k ports. More importantly the ports are all linked into a private cloud of sorts allowing central reporting across the VPN, a central console, full resiliency, redundant failover and one-click roll back in case there is a problem which quickly needs to be undone.

Top 5 Road Trip Apps

July 12, 2011

With the economy sucking wind, more people than ever are taking staycations and even road trips instead of getting on planes. Thankfully, here at TMC we have put together the top five road trip apps you need for your trip.

And to think, when I was a kid I was forced to play 20 questions endlessly - "animal, vegetable or mineral, animal, vegetable or mineral..." enough to drive a person insane. Kids today don't know how easy they have it with the latest gadgets costing so little and virtually ubiquitous Internet access.

TMCnet's Tammy Wolf has the details in the video below.

BlackBerry PlayBook First Thoughts

May 19, 2011

In my review of the BlackBerry PlayBook I must say I am impressed with the device - it is small - not too heavy, feels good in your hands and runs Flash like a champ. The back of the device is rubberized which holds the promise of increased durability and a large degree of scratch-resistance. TMCnet's Stefanie Mosca has more thoughts on the device and as a BlackBerry user it was certainly more functional for her. She also thinks it is an ideal device for traveling which is tough to disagree with - it likely even fits in most purses.

Online Community and SEO Interview

January 21, 2011

I was just interviewed on a podcast by Peter Radizeski who in addition to being a TMC blogger is an expert on the telecom channel and a sought out social media and marketing consultant. On the online community building and SEO podcast we discussed not only how to improve search rank but how to select keywords and use call to action to ensure success. We also had a chance to discuss TMC’s online communities which are news-generated and help our sponsors with their branding, thought leadership, social networking and lead generation. I Hope you like it.

A while back I was also interviewed by Paul Ritter of Interactive Media Strategies regarding online community building and how TMC builds targeted audiences on-demand via specific content and sophisticated, proprietary content-management systems.
