Downtown Los Angeles Outside Fire Impact Area

August 31, 2009

Hi, all -- just wanted to let you know we are here at the Los Angeles Convention Center (I have been here since last Friday actually) and have been monitoring the situation regarding the fires in the LA mountains. We have been in close contact with the Convention Center and other city officials who want to make sure you know the Convention Center is far from the fires and in a safe area.

The specifics posted on the Los Angeles Convention Center Website are as follows:

REGIONAL FIRE UPDATE: The Los Angeles Convention Center is Outside of the Impact Region, and All Events are Operating Normally.

I am headed to the Avaya Social Media event soon and so far there are over a 1,000 people who have flown into LA to set up for the show and get ready for the conferences. I hope to see you tonight.

87% of Executives Agree Face-to-Face Meetings are Best

August 28, 2009

A recent Forbes survey shows business executives prefer face-to-face meetings over those of the virtual type. As expected 58% of respondents said they were travelling for business less today than they were at the beginning of the recession in January 2008, with more than a third (34%) indicating they were travelling much less frequently.

What seems obvious (to me anyway) is that executives still expressed an overwhelming preference for face-to-face meetings, with more than eight out of ten (84%) saying they prefer in-person contact to virtual.

Even more interesting, those that prefer face-to-face meetings believe they facilitate the following: Building stronger, more meaningful relationships (85%), the ability to "read" another person (77%), and Greater social interaction (75%).

ITEXPO West 2009 Interviews Part 2

August 18, 2009

As a follow-up to the ITEXPO interviews I posted links to last week, here are the latest responses from the industry. Of particular interest are answers from Doug Mohney who explains how he got into the business by being employee number 11 or 12 at DIGEX. I also found the responses from Eli Katz of XConnect enlightening... If you are interested in peering or IP communications you want to give them a read.

TMC Looking for Sales and Marketing Interns

April 29, 2009

If you look at TMC from the outside and find yourself asking how you can get a job as an intern at this global integrated media company which builds communities online, in print and in person while gaining marketshare regardless of economic climate, I have some great news to share. We are looking for a small army of interns who want to learn what it's like to take on major multibillion dollar media companies with infinite resources and consistently win.

We will teach you how to sell collaboratively - how to listen and to be loved by your customers (well most of them anyway).

We will teach you integrated marketing and online marketing - not theory but ever-evolving practice.

Telx Creates New Jobs in Jersey

April 28, 2009

While talk of doom and gloom permeates the news, some recent good news worth sharing is a ribbon cutting ceremony in Clifton, NJ for a new Telx data center. It is refreshing to see growth and news jobs being created and congratulations to Telx on this new facility... It's fourth in the NY Metro area.

Here is a video with the details.

We take sponsor and reader loyalty seriously -- looking to constantly improve to provide you with the best products we can.

TMC Builds You Online Communities

March 26, 2009

Many people in the communications space have asked me recently what TMC's secret is. After all, we are in the toughest media environment of our lifetimes and we produced our best show ever and have more paying customers online than at virtually any other time in our history.

The answer may lie in a bit of luck and some skill. The lucky part is we built our first online community for a customer about a decade ago.
