Splice Software Uses the Power of Analytics to Expand its Product Line

August 31, 2015

Big data and analytics have had a huge impact on numerous spaces and certainly marketing is one of these areas. Perhaps the first mainstream story in fact describing the concept revolved around a a retailer knowing a customer was pregnant before her family knew. The possibilities are certainly endless. You may recall a post I wrote some time back about IBM and the concept of digital Darwinism – the idea that companies that embrace new technology will win out over those that do not.

VoicePIN Voice Biometrics Brings New Tech to Phone and Apps

August 31, 2015

The biometrics market has been around for decades but never achieved widespread acceptance until after Apple rolled out TouchID. Laptop makers flirted with the technology about a decade ago but never got their systems to work very well. Apple – to its credit released a solution which is very good.

Dialogic: The Software Powering Next-Gen Networks

August 27, 2015

Much of the communications solutions industry owes a debt of gratitude to Dialogic – the company that really helped pave the way for the once disparate worlds of voice and data to work together. The company was a major player in the communications enabling equipment market in the eighties and nineties allowing off the shelf computers for the first time to host telephony apps. If you’ve heard the acronyms CTI or computer telephony integration or just plain CT it’s because Dialogic, NMS and a few other companies permitted computer servers to handle media processing tasks. If you’re interested in more about the company – check out my posts or those on TMCnet.

InfoVista and Ipanema Technologies Poised to Enable New Carrier Services

May 27, 2015

The WAN optimization market is expected to more than double in size from 2014 to 2019 eventually hitting $12.1 billion according to MarketsandMarkets. It’s no wonder - Cyril Doussau de Bazignan explained to me in a recent meeting that as more companies adopt SaaS, they have the challenge of ensuring critical applications have adequate performance at the expense of applications which are secondary in importance.

Cyril works at InfoVista, a leading provider of IP and RF planning, assurance and optimization software solutions and they recently acquired WAN optimization and application performance leader Ipanema Technologies. He went on to say CIOs have to deal with the challenges of a multitude of applications running on their network while at the same time, enterprises are looking to offload more traffic to the internet to save money.

Schneider Electric: More Software and the IoT to Reshape Data Center Design

May 27, 2015

There is a macro trend of moving proprietary hardware systems to open systems and moving hardware to software – at this point, this shouldn’t be a surprise to anyone who tracked my GENBAND Perspectives 15 blog post or last week’s HP NFV story or even the writing I’ve done on Imagine Communications disrupting the video distribution space with SDN and virtualized solutions.

To learn more, I sat down with Schneider Electric’s Srdan Mutabdzija (above), Global Solution Offer Manager, and Jason Covitz (below), Director of Strategy for IT Business where we talked about IT infrastructure and how it will look in the future.

Jason emphasized the move to commoditized and standardized infrastructure – not just in the spaces mentioned above but oil and gas, mining and manufacturing. Srdan explained the evolution of their products and the market in general is to a more prefabricated, plug-and-play, efficient cooling solutions which lower time to market, reduce risk and allow a more seamless move to public/private clouds.

TSO Logic Enables ConEdison and NY State to help Fund Your New Equipment

May 15, 2015

When I lasted interviewed Aaron Rallo CEO of TSO logic about a year ago, our discussion centered on how his company helps data centers become more efficient. Now, the story gets even better because the agentless solution allows companies to determine the most efficient places for workloads to run. After an install which can be five hours or less, a company will be able to determine how they can run their workloads potentially more efficiently on private clouds – and benefit from the best blend of private, and public.

Extreme Networks Puts the SDN in Skype for Business

May 13, 2015

As Skype for Business continues to gain traction in the enterprise – regardless of how many name changes Microsoft’s UC solution has gone through, the one constant is the need for bandwidth on corporate networks to handle the increased load of voice and video calls. For this reason, Extreme Networks has been focusing on helping customers set up software-defined networks allowing for bandwidth to be requested and granted on-demand in order to ensure communications has the required bandwidth it needs via OpenDaylight integration.

The Extreme Networks OneController... An Open, Standards-Based SDN Controller Providing Simple, Fast, and Smart Automation and Orchestration

In addition, at Interop 2015, Extreme touted a bunch of SDN enhancements it has made including:

  • Group Based Policy - Integrates Extreme Networks' NetSight management application with OpenDaylight Group-Based Policy (GBP) to deploy consistent network policies across a multivendor network.
  • SDN Applications Store - Offers an online repository of paid and free apps for customers and technology solution partners' Software Defined Networks.
  • SDN Developer Portal - Provides third-party developers of SDN applications with the necessary information needed for developing, submitting and managing their applications in the Extreme Networks app store.

At the show I met with a number of people from the company including: Markus Nispel, Vice President Solutions Architecture and Innovation, John Hanahan, VP Product Management and Marketing and Derek Granath, Senior Director Product Management and they seemed quite enthused about recent wins such as a 32-school system in the town of Enfield, Connecticut and University of New England in Australia.
