Theme & Discussion Topics Unified Communications: Communications integrated to optimize business processes on the trading floor   Basic description:   Today's organizations must contend with increasingly complex communications environments featuring a wide array of communications methods. Employees, business partners, and customers communicate with one another through infinite combinations of wired, wireless, and mobile phones; voice messaging; e-mail; fax; mobile clients; and rich-media conferencing. Too often, however, these tools are not used as effectively as they could be. The result is information overload, lack of agility, and misdirected communications that delay decisions, slow down processes, drive customers away, and reduce productivity.

SimulScribe

May 30, 2007

The voicemail transcription market otherwise known as voicemail to text is showing no signs of slowing down. I have written about this space a few times (Voicemail Transcription, Vonage Voicemail Transcription, SpinVox) in the past and I think it has tremendous potential for growth.   One of the companies in this space which I have been aware of for months but haven’t had a chance to cover is SimulScribe. I recently interviewed the company’s CEO James Siminoff who is 30 years old and has already launched a successful prepaid calling card business prior to launching SimulScribe.   As it turns out – a while back, he was having a casual conversation with his calling card business partner and the partner’s son and the topic of voicemail came up. The thought was, wouldn’t it be great if you read your voicemail instead of listening to it.   Shortly thereafter the company developed a system to handle this task and used it internally.

Mihaylo Bids for Inter-Tel

May 16, 2007

There is a higher bid for Inter-Tel than what Mitel initially offered to pay. The bid is being led by Steve Mihaylo who is a major shareholder of Inter-Tel and the former founder. Rumor has it Steve who has been a keynote speaker at a prior Internet Telephony Conference & Expo has board members who can help direct the sale of the company back into his control.

Mihaylo had a former offer for the company rejected as you may recall.

Communications Developer Show Daily

May 11, 2007

Here is the first show daily from the Communications Developer Conference taking place next week. Many have told me they are thrilled TMC is sponsoring such an event as there needs to be a single place the communications industry can come to get development information and network with fellow developers.   The show daily has many of the links you will need to understand what is important and when it is taking place.   In addition there is an explanation of the various workshops taking place from the following companies:     I am looking forward to the industry coming together next week and working on developing for the next big communications opportunities.

Office Headsets

May 9, 2007

I have written a few times in the past about TMC’s channel program and the fact we have built over 100 business to businesses (b2b) communities in the communications and technology space.   The communities are news-based and are designed in conjunction with the sponsors of each site.   We have found over time these communities get bookmarked and do better and better.   Our most recent addition to the channel familynumber 110 in fact -- is Office Headsets which is sponsored by GN Netcom.   Even though the channel is new there is some news and articles of interest already:

Open-Source Telephony Goes Mainstream

May 8, 2007

In the last few years the communications industry has been taken by storm through the invention of an open-source communications platform named Asterisk invented by Digium (www.digium.com) founder Mark Spencer. An article written for the January 2004 issue of Internet Telephony magazine by yours truly was titled, “Open Source Telephony. . .
