SuperComm 2009 to Possibly Change Dates

March 17, 2009

SuperComm had been the nation's largest carrier event for decades and over the last seven years or so the show split into two and even three events. Some of the other names the show went by (or partially went by) were TelecomNxt, Globalcomm and NxtComm. Recently the two warring association factions the TIA and USTA made up and the show became SuperComm again which took place last June in Las Vegas.

< p>The event was very strong up until 2000 and since it split into two it has steadily decreased its attendance to the point where it is a shadow of its former self. The association wars took their toll on this event and some think the damage that was done cannot be repaired.

Harris Stratex Makes Minor WiMAX Purchase

March 2, 2009

Buddy, can you spare a million bucks a month?

Harris Stratex just picked up Telsima Networks for a low $1 million/month for 12 months. The potential reason was the relationship the two companies had where Harris Stratex resold equipment from Telsima. Who is Telsima? A little-known WiMAX products provider who has received at least $81 million in investment in the past.

Freedom to Connect

February 24, 2009

I recently had a chance to sit down with David Isenberg and discuss his Freedom to Connect (F2C) conference which takes place March 30 & 31, 2009 in Washington DC. He reminded me the price for the conference goes up $100 on February 28 so you need to act quickly.

Update: David kindly offered readers of this blog $100 off if they register at this URL. So until 2/28 it'll only cost you $395, then after that, when the list price goes up to $595, your discount will still be $100.

There are a number of new speakers announced who join already-announced speakers such as the CIO of San Francisco, the CTO of Seattle, the Chief Technologist of the FCC, and the visionaries of Lafayette LA and Burlington VT municipal networks.

Avaya, Altigen Going After Nortel Customers

February 20, 2009

 Yahoo search for term Nortel

Do a Yahoo! search on Nortel and you see ads from Microsoft and Avaya which are quite friendly. Microsoft for example directs you to its People Ready Business site where it pushes its relationship with Nortel with messaging which emphasizes global solutions to empower the enterprise. Avaya's ad is pretty generic - and goes directly to the home page.

Microsoft Live search for term Nortel

If you use Microsoft Live as your search engine the results are similar to Yahoo with a Microsoft ad but the Avaya ad is replaced by one from Fonality going to their home page which touts their "New Deal" or a 20% discount on certain models.

Google search for term Nortel

Wireless Carriers Give up on New Services

February 5, 2009

Google recently released an application called Latitude which allows you to give your friends access to your whereabouts on a Google map. When I tried to download it on my iPhone I received a message saying it is coming soon. I didn't try on my XV6800 because the GPS has been crippled by HTC at the request of Verizon Wireless.

The service does allow control over what information is shared so privacy experts should be somewhat less concerned.

Some Important ITEXPO East 2009 News

January 28, 2009

Here are some links from a recent ITEXPO Show Daily sent to ITEXPO attendees. It doesn't live online yet so I can't post a link. (Show daily 1, 2) Instead I cut and pasted some of the more important parts with the important links and videos borrowed from the ITEXPO home page.

Keep reading to the end and be sure you are at the show to potentially win the Jeep (you must be present to win). In this economy I am not aware of too many places you can win a car -- just because you showed up.
