Taqua

May 14, 2007

I spent some time with the Taqua and Genband folks a few weeks ago before I could tell anyone Taqua was being spun out as a separate entity.   Now the embargo is lifted and the company will be going full speed ahead.   Founded in 1998, Taqua developed the industry's first fully integrated next-generation Class 5 switch - the Taqua 7000 Switching System. The T7000 can be used in Enhanced VoIP, Intelligent Gateway, Class 4/5 Transition, Triple Play and/or Cable Telephony applications.   Taqua was sold to Tekelec years ago and more recently was sold to Genband who just today spun Taqua back out as a separate company. The management of Taqua have a clear vision and based on the conversation I had with them they feel they will be immediately taking share away from their competition.   Taqua has some of the best and brightest and it will be most interesting to see if they take as much share as they predict.   Stay tuned.

Communications Developer Show Daily

May 11, 2007

Here is the first show daily from the Communications Developer Conference taking place next week. Many have told me they are thrilled TMC is sponsoring such an event as there needs to be a single place the communications industry can come to get development information and network with fellow developers.   The show daily has many of the links you will need to understand what is important and when it is taking place.   In addition there is an explanation of the various workshops taking place from the following companies:     I am looking forward to the industry coming together next week and working on developing for the next big communications opportunities.

Communications Darwinism

May 8, 2007

In the world of natural selection, animals capable of evolving with a changing environment survive while those who do not, perish. As you enter an ice age for example animals with increasingly wooly coats are at an advantage. As you enter a warming period, a wooly coat could be a disadvantage.   With this in mind I had a great talk today with Sharone Ben-Levi Vice President Marketing, AudioCodes, Inc. Sharone spoke with me at length about the future of communications from their vantage point. With over six years at the company Ben-Levi is a great person to speak about where his company sees communications heading.

Cable Gets VoIP

May 8, 2007

Cable companies are feasting on VoIP success by the millions of customers. What an amazing job they are doing taking customers from phone companies. So far however, cable VoIP growth in the SMB space has been slow. Large phone companies for their part seem to be copying as opposed to innovating.

Hillary Clinton Champion of Net Neutrality?

Ed Whitacre Jr.

April 27, 2007

Congratulations to Ed Whitacre Jr. for building a great big telecommunications company from an assortment of smaller ones. Certainly in this case the sum was greater than the parts.   Ed is about to retire and he can consider this my retirement present.   While I have perhaps had a rant or two over the years about net neutrality comments made by Mr. Whitacre, there is not a single person who can deny this man has achieved greatness in the world of communications and technology.   Ed Whitacre Jr. put AT&T back together again and left it in great shape.   The Board of Directors has chosen Randall L. Stephenson, AT&T's chief operating officer, to succeed Whitacre as chairman and CEO.   Randall has tremendous shoes to fill and it may be very tough to keep AT&T’s massive momentum going without even more acquisitions. These could consist of content plays such as perhaps satellite radio, internet companies and even advertising networks. Yahoo!
