Internet Precursor Ends

The telegraph was the first communications mechanism allowing near instantaneous communication over distance. Much the way e-mail transmits text today the telegraph transformed communications in ways that allowed people to be connected over distance. Samuel Morse wrote the first telegram in 1844 and now, over a century later the last telegram was sent. Still, by any measure that is serious staying power for a technology and we can only hope VoIP will enjoy such a run.
