AT&T Responds to DOJ - What They Missed

September 9, 2011

AT&T responded to the DOJ regarding the blocked T-Mobile USA acquisition saying that the proposed merger would be good for consumers as it would allow AT&T to gain access to T-Mobile spectrum allowing their call quality to improve and the number of dropped calls to be reduced. This in turn they argue would lead to lower prices. Ma Bell 2.0 continued to explain that the wireless business is fiercely competitive which has resulted in lower prices over time.

The interesting takeaway here is that there is nothing new being argued.

It should come as no surprise to avid followers of this blog that the PSTN is potentially going to be mothballed in the next seven years. If you are wondering what will replace it, the answer is in-part SIP and protocols TBD. Avaya to Show How Chat and Social Influence Telecom

September 8, 2011

The world on converging faster than ever and technology markets are evolving faster than ever. Today we learned that Google purchased Zagat meaning that content and search will be more intertwined than ever. Earlier this week we learned about a potential link-up between Amazon and 7-Eleven.

The question is, what is next and how do we prepare for transformation which is seemingly taking place across every discipline without regard for incumbent relationships?

Enterprises have to keep an eye on what's happening because as we are seeing before our eyes, voice communications is rapidly becoming social. Avaya is one of the leaders in the communications transformation and this Monday at ITEXPO they will kick off a Tech on Tap event which will help bring us up to speed on how they see the world changing.
