You may have heard one of the absolute brightest spots in the tech space is the machine to machine or M2M market where analysts believe sales will total $18 billion in the next five years as device totals surge from 75 million to over 225 million.

The M2M Evolution conference is the world's gathering place for information on this market and it will be held concurrently with ITEXPO October 4-6, 2010 in Los Angeles and coincidentally we just announced an important keynote at this event today.

When will the Smart Home Take off?

It is a certainty inevitable that home automation becomes more of a reality and that disparate product categories will converge. Already tablet computers are being tasked with becoming part of the integrated entertainment of millions of consumers who appreciate being able to watch movies and read books on a single device.

But as time marches on more integration is inevitable and one of the best examples of the blending of WiFi, Internet radio and iTunes is Sonos, a wireless stereo system I recently wrote about and was quite impressed with. The company with a palindrome for a name rides on a home's WiFi network and allows you to wirelessly build an in-home audio system.

Paid registrations are also tracking 4 times ahead of last year so far which bodes very well for the show. I will begin to post more information about the show as it only 53 days away now.

Hurd's Resignation and HP's Odd Half-Decade

Some big news yesterday in the world of technology had to do with Mark Hurd and his resignation following a sexual harassment investigation where he was not found guilty. The woman allegedly involved with Hurd was a former contractor and according to a close source there was no romantic or sexual relationship between the two. What is unusual though is the company on a conference call characterized their relationship as "close" and "personal."

I am at a bit of a loss to understand exactly what I just wrote means.
