SIP + Smart Grid = Opportunity

As you probably know I am extremely enthused about the idea of the smart grid as it is not only necessary for the next generation of power generation and consumption in the world but just as importantly because the new grid will interface using communications and networking protocols. What this means is massive, unprecedented opportunity for our industry as a smart grid is developed.

It further means telecom and datacom players who are paying attention are also salivating at the prospect.

To further educate the market on the smart grid, TMC has partnered with Intelligent Communications Partners (ICP) to put together an event in the space and a web portal which will be the leading source of information in the space.

Internet Telephony Expo Becomes ITEXPO

For ten years Internet Telephony Conference & Expo has been the one trade show which focused first on bringing buyers and sellers in the communications market together -- a surprisingly novel idea in the communications conference market. And what a wild ride it has been as after the show was launched in 1999, the CLEC boom came into full swing and hordes of CLEC and ILEC decision-makers came to the show to buy all sorts of gear.

Then the telecom bubble burst and the carrier market slowed dramatically but the enterprise, SMB and government decision-makers came to the show in force. A few years later Vonage came onto the scene forcing incumbent telcos including rural, wireless and cable companies to look seriously at next generation communications.

TMC Wishes Greg Galitzine a Fond Farewell

For nearly 13 years, Greg Galitzine has been a tremendously valuable part of the TMC team. His career started as an editor for CTI Magazine in 1996. Where he reported on the collision of the computer and communications spaces including what we called IP telephony back in the day. In 1997 we convened a meeting with Greg to explore whether it made sense to launch a publication in the IP telephony space.

Hi Availability Unified Communications from AVST

For over a decade TMC has covered AVST and their wonderful unified messaging solutions - which in the nineties were the talk of the industry. But as is sometimes the case, when the industry talks about the next big thing, it doesn't always take off overnight. While UM was slow to catch on in the nineties, the last few years have seen an explosion of interest in both UM and UC. While you may think this is a long time to wait, remember some are still waiting for the glorious age of OS/2 to finally arrive.

Many people in the communications space have asked me recently what TMC's secret is. After all, we are in the toughest media environment of our lifetimes and we produced our best show ever and have more paying customers online than at virtually any other time in our history.

The answer may lie in a bit of luck and some skill. The lucky part is we built our first online community for a customer about a decade ago.
