Important Interviews

January 16, 2008

Recently I was fortunate enough to be able to interview a number of thought leaders and others who have given me their perspectives on the communications market, the future, the entry of Google, Apple and Microsoft into the space and much more.

Here are some of the more interesting interviews for your reading pleasure... I really think we can get a healthy read on where communications will be headed in 2008 by absorbing some of these comments.

Tech News 01/16/07

January 16, 2008

It has been a pretty big news day so far this early morning. Intel perhaps is responsible for the biggest portion of today's market movement as last night they announced earnings which were not all that bad but the stock got slammed anyway. I am a shareholder of Intel as a point of disclosure.

Ending a six-month long saga many thought was over, Oracle will be buying BEA Systems for 8.5 billion dollars in an all-cash deal. You may recall this summer that the two companies were negotiating over this sale with BEA rejecting an earlier offer from the database and software giant.

The Wall Street Journal has good financial analysis of Synchronoss Technology, the company behind the iPhone activation.

Quantcast Update 01/08

January 15, 2008

On November 6, 2007 I had a post (see bottom of post for chart) where I showed how TMC compares with other IP Communications sites. I did this by pulling numbers from Quantcast, a web service which tracks web traffic worldwide but whose numbers quoted here equal the unique United States visitors each month.

So a Quantcast ranking of 3,000 means that you have 100 unique visitors each day per month (approximately 30 days). So 100 x 30 = 3,000. Again -- these are US numbers only.

In November of last year, TMCnet attracted just over 711,000 US unique visitors per month according to Quantcast.

Now, just two months later, our Quantcast ranking is 870,019, an increase of 159,019.

ITEXPO Discount – Act Fast

November 7, 2007

Sometimes I think I have the best job on earth as I get to meet with the real thought leaders in the communications market and see the latest products and services in the industry. Then I get the distinct pleasure of writing about my meetings.   Now there are times – don’t get me wrong – when I am on deadline and I can’t seem to type a cohesive sentence. But other than these few times each year, I have a great job made even better when I get to meet my many readers in person at trade shows and events around the world.   Each year, thousands of service providers, enterprise decision makers, resellers and developers come to TMC’s Internet Telephony Conference & Expo to learn about what is happening in the world of IP communications and to make purchasing decisions   In an effort to get to meet more of my readers in person, I would like to offer something I have never offered before… A major discount to attend ITEXPO, the world’s best-attended IP communications event drawing attendees from over 100 countries.   As you can see from these photos and videos, this is the world best attended IP communications event. We are very excited to have you come to this show.

TMCnet Searches

October 5, 2007

I thought it would be interesting to see what people search on when they come to TMCnet. It should be noted these searches are on TMCnet proper which unfortunately at the moment does not include blogs.   These numbers should be taken with a grain of salt because if a search is embedded in a web link and that link is crawled repeatedly by search engine spiders you come up with a situation where numbers may be skewed. Be that as it may, it is worth sharing some of the information from the last month if for no other reason than as a diversion from more important pursuits such as doing your (and my) job.   1 Avaya No surprise here but shouldn’t Cisco be more popular based on company size and product portfolio? 2 Witness+Systmes I get the feeling this is one of those odd pages (with a typo by the way) that gets crawled repeatedly.

TMCnet New Traffic Record

August 15, 2007

Thanks to all our readers and visitors who have allowed TMCnet to achieve a new traffic record in July 2007.   Here are the numbers:   Page Views 30,977,147 Average Visit Length 35:45 Unique Visitors 3,078,409   Page Views refers to actual pages viewed. So if you look at three articles a month on TMCnet you represent 3 page views. Our prior average was 20 million.   30,977,147 represents a 50+% increase over the prior record.   Average Visit Length represents how much time a person spends on the site   Unique Visitors represents how many unique viewers came to TMCnet in the entire month.   Thank you also to the TMC team for continuing to produce content our audience finds compelling.

Cisco Beat Earnings

August 7, 2007

Cisco beat earnings by $120 million dollars and they say enterprise earnings are strong.   Scientific Atlanta also produced outstanding results for the company.   Emerging markets are growing at 40%   Here are some statements I just wrote up for a TMCnet article that should be coming out soon:   John Chambers is on record as saying has never seen such a surge in technology since 1990. This bodes very well for the industry. I would imagine Cisco should have a blow out quarter with most of the revenue growth coming from outside the US.   In addition, I would expect the company’s IP communications growth to be strong. This bodes well for the industry but as Cisco gets stronger it may become tougher for the smaller players to compete.   Update:   Here is a great article from TMCnet’s Tim Gray on Cisco beating the earnings.
