The people at Sennheiser were nice enough to send TMC a pair of their PXC 250 noise canceling headphones for review and I had the pleasure of using them on a trip out to Las Vegas. Quite simply I am not sure how I traveled without this nifty gadget before. Frequently throughout the trip I took the headphones off and marveled at how loud reality really is. In addition the headset is light and small, perhaps half the size or less than the bulkiest units on the market. Audiophiles might have a problem with the headset as it tends to color sound a bit when turned on. I happen to like this effect as it makes the music sound brighter.
I read that the new Honda Accord hybrid has noise canceling built into it as well. I wonder how many applications of this technology there are. Some headsets have noise canceling today but I wonder if they all will in the future. It seems like planes, trains and automobiles (not the movie) should all have a noise canceling switch you can flip on when needed. Sounds like something we may see in the next decade.
Until then the PXC 250 is a good pair of noise canceling headphones I can recommend wholeheartedly.
