REI Communications Triple Play

October 7, 2005

REI Communications is getting serious about triple-play as they are going to use Pannaway Technologies to deliver the service in Central Florida. 200,000 residents will have access to the service. REI Communications CEO Karl Burgess says one of the reasons they picked Pannaway was because the New England-based company helped deliver affordable service to their customers and Pannaway is working around the clock to deliver the solution.

The best thing about the deal? Pannaway is located in New Hampshire and the service calls in January are awesome!

Qualcomm VoIP

October 7, 2005

Perhaps the most exciting news in VoIP yesterday was the little-covered announcement of Qualcomm supporting the Philips electronics WLAN module meaning the marriage of WiFi and cellular is coming. The integrated system will connect to WLAN networks as well as to existing cellular networks, featuring compatibility with 802.11b and 802.11g protocols on CDMA2000 and WCDMA (UMTS) networks.

At least the technology for dual-mode devices is falling into place. The question now is whether there will be a way for us to get at it. Will cellular providers help us in acquiring devices that allow us to speak not only on cellular networks but WiFi as well?

Sources tell me some service providers are warming to the idea while others are not so happy with it.

SIPTHAT

October 5, 2005

I have to second the nice welcome Tom Keating has extended Erik Lagerway. We at TMC are excited to have Erik join the TMC family and to host his SIPThat blog. I have been following Erik’s blog for sometime and I think it is of the highest quality and I am happy to work with Erik to help further the movement towards more rapid SIP adoption.

Rates Technology and Alcatel

August 25, 2005

In my blog entry on Rates Technology Inc I mentioned Alcatel as in default. Specifically:

After it became impossible to get them covered, RTI recently filed suit for willful patent infringement against Centrepoint Technologies, Inc. for much less money than Mitel and Alcatel (they certainly are a smaller company).

Mitel Networks was sued for $945 Million; Alcatel was sued for $1.155 Billion; and their default is pending in USDC EDNY. Hello Direct, GN Netcom and GN had been sued by RTI for patent infringement, and they recently settled with RTI; the terms are being kept confidential

.

Since that time I have learned the court has vacated the default meaning it is now in the hands of California courts since Alcatel sued Rates Technology Inc. first in California.

Rates Technology Inc.

April 19, 2005

I have been hearing more and more rumblings in the VoIP industry regarding Jerry Weinberger of Rates Technology Inc. (RTI). I don't get too many people coming to me about patent issues so when I heard about this company, I decided to delve into this potential story a bit more. What intrigued me is that apparently RTI has no products... They exist to collect revenue from other companies.

I did some research and found that Rates Technologies has sued Nortel, Sharp Electronics and others.

TMC Offers Free International Magazines and Launches 5 New Titles

November 2, 2004

Please click here to subscribe to these free publications immediately.

In the last few days TMC has made some amazing announcements regarding our publications. The first bit of news is that our print publications are going digital, meaning they will be available via PDF. Instead of having to wait 2 weeks for the printer to print the magazine and another 2+ weeks for delivery, you will receive your magazine via an e-mail link that will allow you to download a PDF that includes hyperlinks allowing you to get more out of the magazine than print could ever provide. There is nothing like the flexibility of reading a PDF publication with good hyperlinks in it allowing you to go to definitions, stock quotes and other related sites with the click of your mouse.
